Rifle Scopes Rings at the ends of pic rail?

I generally set my rings as far apart as possible on pic rails. With a rail that is receiver length on a magnum caliber, is there any reason to keep the rings one notch in from the ends for strength, or am I overthinking this and it’s no issue putting the rings at the ends? Thanks!

You want the entire grip/flange to be in contact with the rail (I.e. no contact surface wasted due to overhang). As long as that is the case I wouldn’t worry.

Overthinking. I worry about where the ring is on the scope and not the base. I put them close as possible to centered in the tube and then The rings attach where they may on the rail.

You mean like this, closer to the erector housing?

Or centered as in each ring is centered on its individual mounting space of the tube?


I think the way I have it on the pictured rifle may cause parallax issues if over torqued a bit but I have not experienced such problems.

Would depend on the following in order:

Set length of pull without scope
Place rings on rail, temporarily
Set proper eye relief with scope
Readjust ring placement if needed

That is basically what I do when mounting a scope minus the LOP as that is already set.

Centered like this is how I try to get them but being off a little is fine too. No set rules but no need to have them at the farthest points on the rail.

^ if you have them spaced out farther it supports the scope more. Ie a bit to the objective has less leverage on the tube.
