I guess I'm unfamiliar with his story, and dont feel like sorting thru liberal BS online...

    Cliff notes from anyone?
I thought it was 'basically' was for creation/running an encrypted internet marketplace ( dark web) that the Fed.Gov. could not Regulate, Tax, and used different forms of cryptocurrencies, and barter, sell, buy, trade, steal, ..Etc. an ANYTHING GOES wild west . So the US Federal Gov. got a HUGE case of the RedAss because they were cut totally out of the loop with him running his own mini separate economy, and so made a example of him, by railroad prosecution and sentencing him to Life imprisonment till death .

    edit add:
If I wrong ?, or left anything out. Please let me know .

Sprinkle in some 3 letter agency fuckabout into this story and it’s pretty close. This site has all the details

He was the first to successfully use Bitcoin anonymously.

The silk road had everything from weed to hookers, people, hit men, etc.

It was the wild West and completely untraceable. You had to be running TOR to even connect to the site, and it drove the feds crazy.

They couldn't break TOR to trace locations, and they couldn't follow the money with Bitcoin. This is why he scared the shit out of them, and they went full overkill to try and set an example.

    What is TOR

It was an Enemy of the State thing for sure.

That's the thing - TOR has always been compromised by the FEDs, even if TSR started out as a true pirate ship, at some point it was likely co-opted and more likely Ross U has a lot of inside baseball on how our Gov really functions / makes use of such sites for their own purposes.

I had never heard of him until watching a long documentary about him a couple of weeks ago. I knew about Silk Road but never knew the back story.

Yeah, he got screwed and his sentence was insane. He was made an example-of by the Obama administration that was looking for control of the Internet, goods, services, etc. His sentence was utterly a travesty.

Glad he got pardoned. Didn't even know it was in the offing. His Silk Road site was a shit show and definitely had some real criminal elements using it. But his 'mission,' which was to create real free trade, was something that oligarchs, socialists and globalists could never let stand. And for that reason... he was punished.

Hope he got to keep some of the money he made!

    Sirhr

I'd say that isn't the correct description.
TOR like Signal was essentially "sponsored" or "created" by our intelligence agencies for the purpose of helping them do stuff they wanted. Like overthrowing governments and all that stuff.

To make it useable, it had to be made open to everyone otherwise it would be too easy to hide things in it.
Essentially the more people that used it for the more different purposes, the better it was for the government.

Now does the NSA ever hand out toys that they don't have a backdoor to?

It all depends on who you don't want looking at your stuff.

Our .gov is evil and should be dismantled

Better have a good plan of what to replace it with first.
As bad as our government is, it could be (and has been) a lot worse.
As bad as the Uniform Hangers are, they could be (and have been) a lot worse.

Many of the folks spouting "the solution" actually just want to create their own dictatorship.

This country has had a pretty bad and rocky road when it comes to civil and religious liberties and individual freedoms.
It might not look like it, but actually in a lot of cases the further back you go, actually the worse things were.

Also there is the problem that there is a whole lot of very bad folks and bad entities and bad countries that are organized and equipped and would pounce hard the moment "the government" was gone.

Make sure you have the plan for the new order before dismantling the old order.

Simple. Get back to the constitution.

To include voting requirements , no qualified immunity. No .gov sticking its nose hands and eyes everywhere it shouldn’t

    Much easier said than done.

The USA was a rotten place to live for the poor folks until after the first batch of 10 amendments were done.
Took another amendment to get slavery done.
Took another amendment to stop presidents being eternal dictators.

Even still your Civil rights and Religious and speech freedoms pretty much were of little value until there was a powerful enough Federal Government to enforce them and the will of the Feds to enforce such things onto the states and such.

And what's to say it won't be quickly re-interpreted back to how it is interpreted or twisted now?

Essentially you'll need to first re-do the constitution with the understanding that from day 1 evil folks will try to twist it, re-interpret it, ignore it, legislate around it.

You'll probably need to word things a lot more lengthy and specific and put teeth into each thing.

The biggest thing you need to add is a way to punish the government and specifically the individuals in the government at every level when it/the does/do something against the constitution or the rights of the citizens.

    Seems relevant

valid points, but. gov is only legit if it has the consent of the governed-ours doesn't. gov which governs least governs best-ours doesn't.
in the 70s i thought there was only a dime's worth of dif between the US and USSR. our chains were of silk, theirs of steel. in the last 4 years this gov has been little dif from Nazi Germany and the plan was in place to remove whatever differences there were. we all could spend hours laying out the details of what is seriously wrong here. we all know serious change is needed. the hope is that we have gotten a chance. time will tell if we are able to correct the problems

You know what this sounds like to me. Luigi Mangione.

Look at what they are charging him with, what they want to do to him.

    Do you know why......

Simple he went and peed in their pool. This was a simple murder. None of the other things they are going after him for. Ask yourself why none of the dozens of daily murders in places like Chicago, STL.......none of those people are charged as terrorism, so why this guy. Simple, to send a message to the "little people" to stay in their lane. Kill all of your kind you want, but if you kill one of "ours" we will end you.

And public reaction is not quite what the .gov is going for. This is simple 1st deg murder nothing more.

Ver renounced his US citizenship years ago.
He’s still being attacked by the US court system. If he’s not a citizen they should drop all charges and leave him the fuck alone

Edit: A very brief overview about Ver’s case. There is plenty more available if anyone is interested

    What is TOR

    The Onion Router.

A deeper network that runs over the Internet backbone, that is segregated from the normal Internet naming server system (think .com, .net, .gov, etc.) that anonymizes your connections through it and uses entrance/exit nodes for transiting network traffic instead of traffic bouncing between various ISPs/service providers where it's more visible.

For non-techy people, that all probably means nothing. Sean Ryan did a pretty decent interview with ethical hacker Ryan Montgomery where he goes into explaining it in a bit better detail - A short from that interview:
