Maggie’s Rotary Wing Hedge Trimming...

Re: Rotary Wing Hedge Trimming...

A friend of mine works for Monongahela Power in West Virgina. They use a similar setup to trim along the powerlines. He told me the pilots only work a few hours then get a couple of days off. The stress level is very high when they do this operation.

Good for body work on BMW's though

Re: Rotary Wing Hedge Trimming...

I just keep wondering what exactly would happen if a blade snapped causing the whole thing to become unstable and possibly shake itself to pieces; it would happen so fast I doubt the pilot would be able to recover.

Re: Rotary Wing Hedge Trimming...

What could possibly go wrong with that? It's not like helicopters crash or have problems a lot.

Oh wait....

Why do they cut trees in remote areas? Do remote areas need trees trimmed?

The guy who invented this died when the saw got hung up. He couldn't get it off, and finally just ran out of fuel. They have a quick release now.

Re: Rotary Wing Hedge Trimming...

Actually Aerial Solutions does quit well. The mechanic that STC'd the remote start panel for the rotax engine on the saw use to work for me. He worked for them for two or three years. It pays ok but is pretty stressful.

They also trim several miles in a day. A trimming crew cannot do that. That is why these guys have been very busy for the last 20 years!
