Does anyone manufacture a round knob like the AIAE/AW?
I have looked into some of our hide gunsmiths and not found one yet. I would call around and do the door to door but I am deployed right now and that's just out of the question!

Thanks in advance for any leads!

Try AZ Precision.

He does a bunch of different styles and may be able to come up with something for you.

Just know that if it's much bigger than the factory Remington ball, you may have some scope clearance issues (assuming this is going on a Remington).

Fred Szablewski at Sabreco in Pennsylvania installs ball handles on Remington 700 bolts. I can't remember what he asks for them but turn-around is less than two weeks.

Re: Round "Accuracy International" type bolt knob?

I see problems with using a round ball on a 700 if the handle is not replaced or lengthened.

As stated above, if you take a factory handle and replace the factory knob with a larger ball, you will have scope clearance problems.

If you get a new handle welded or soldered on that is longer than factory, you could attach an aluminum ball knob and it would look/feel great.

But without replacing or lengthening the factory handle, I dont see it being very feasible. And I see no attractive way to lengthen it.

The one pictured above looks like it would have less scope clearance than with most knobs, and`doesn't look like much of an improvement over the factory design. It looks pretty nice, but with a scope on the rifle and the bolt open I'd be interested to see how much clearance it has. And how easy it is to grab that ball with it along side the scope.

If you just want a round ball get a ball bearing and anneal it with a oxy/acetylene torch and you have your ball. I made a bent bolt for my PE sniper and used a ball bearing. This was easier than trying to cut off the beat up one and drill & tap it. Its the top one in the pic.

The ball works well and clears both the scope and the stock. I removed the scope that was on that gun because I sold the rifle.

Try it before you knock it.

Re: Round "Accuracy International" type bolt knob?

All depends on the knob and scope. I had one of Fred'ssorry, after seeing the post after mine it was one of Bill's, not Fred's on my silhouette 7-08 700 and I can tell you it was smaller than an AIAW's, and that it wouldn't clear a USO SN3's ocular.

Actually Keith cut and studded my bolt handle for it, that was I ran prior to his original "marksman" knob I snapped off when I ran my rifle over....

Looking back, I also had Keith cut my bolt handle as close to the bolt body that he could, this probably made it not clear when the barreled action was put in a stock other than the Pharr RT/S and a USO was put on top.
-sorry about the fuzzy memory, I spent a lot of money and effort back in the day messing it up.

Hey Drew - you can get them from Bills Bolt Knobs

http://www.boltknobsbybill.com/Styles.htm

I have one of his round Phenolic knobs installed on my Rem 700 223 in an AICS stock. Will post a pic when I get it back from being painted.

If you want an AI style knob on a 700 this is the way to go. It is the same size, shape & feel as the knobs on my AE & AW's.

Cheers,
