Round Count

I did a few searches here but didn't find what I was looking for.
Question is: Does anyone manufacture a device that attaches to the rifle that keeps a running count on the number of rounds fired through that rifle? I gotta believe some one does but cant find anything. Not looking for something that gives a count of ammo on board but rounds fired for barrel life tracking.

Something that you would have to keep strapped to the rifle at all times to be worth it. Somehow not be in the way. On when it needs to be without draining battery the rest of the time. Forget to turn it on for one range session and it would already be useless. Maybe manual like ring talley counter but then how do you decipher between whether it was a shot or you dropped the rifle or a low power rounds goes off etc

Easier just to buy a bunch of one bullet and count boxes youve gone through or have left.

Or keep a log if you are using lots of differently sourced bullets. Easy to go back and say, Oh yeah, I forgot about those two boxes off the shelf, easy to add in later in a log book.

you are the device, you know the number of ammo you've got. after shooting, count the ammo thats left Subtract the former amout with the amount of ammo after you are done shooting, there's your answer. NOT SO HARD.

I use an app on my phone called Gun Log SPC. I have been using it for several years to replace my paper rifle log book, round count / inventory log, maintenance log, as well as a weapon and accessory inventory. It tracks ammo usage as I fill out the log pages and deducts the rounds fired from the remaining rounds in inventory. It gives you the ability to set up multiple configurations for each weapon profile. I have three configurations set up for my AXMC.

The app tracks the total round count on the receiver, and the round count on each barrel separately, from my shooting log entries. At the end of each year I print out a report on the total activity for the year and file it. I can also save pictures of all my targets, linked to the shot data, no more cutting up paper targets and taping them in my old log book. The app is very stable and available on iPhone/iPad, but I’m not sure about android. There is a free version, but it has less functionality.

I created a profile on GunHive for each one of my rifles and their barrels.

I prefer digital over hard copy, and with GunHive I can use it from any device with internet - cell phone at the range, computer at home, etc.

Makes it pretty easy. I was horrible at keeping track prior to using that resource.

Never seen one on a rifle but Beretta has a device that goes in their shotguns called a gun pod that keeps a round count for you. I've never actually seen one in use either, but it's out there.

I just write my round count down in my book when I'm done shooting.

I think it is a good question, and it seems like without too much work someone could come up with a good solution. Maybe something similar to the wireless hour meters they make for motorcycles. It senses vibration and keeps track of run time.

Interesting. I figured someone had come up with one somewhere

Hello Everyone,
My name is Henrik and I works for Secubit, the reason I'm writing to you today is that we've got few queries from users who saw this msg. So thanks to you all for the interest, however, we don't indeed sell to civil users just yet.

Secubit, with our product WeaponLogic works all over the world with Military and LE, we launched a new product this year at SHOT with some new exciting features, and we are in touch with few manufacturers in order to have the product with embedded every sniper gun...

I promise to keep you all up to date if we will start work with end users, thanks a lot!!
If you have any questions feel free to contact us through the website that mentioned earlier. (I can't promote)

Would be cool solution for competition shooters to be able to set intervals for cleaning based on accuracy, catalog velocity relative to round count, dry fire practice etc. Hopefully you can find a way of creating relatively affordable solution that works for bolt rifles and semi autos alike for end-users.

Very neat idea overall.

Thanks FC,
Actually one of the coolest features we've launched a few months ago is Muzzle Velocity, we are still working on perfection but it works on semi-autos and bolt, we have a test scheduled for September with a famous company in the U.S.

Some of our product's capabilities:
Shot detection
Distinguish btw multi type of ammo
Energy measurements
Barrel temp
Shot cycle (for Semi's)
Service intervals for each part of the weapon
And few others...

Before we launch the product for competitive shooters I'll invite you to participate in the trial if you want.

Henrik

Are you by chance from Denmark originally?

What device are you using to capture Muzzle velocity, calculate ES and SD, Min/Max and Average velocities of the sample of rounds you are shooting?

I write round count info (total rounds and rounds since cleaned) on post -it notes and rubber band them to my barrel along with the load info the gun is zero'd for. After every session I mark out the old number and write a new one.
