RPR Gen II Timney Trigger Problem

I purchased a Timney trigger for my Ruger Precision Rifle, and while the installation was basically a breeze, the safety is not working properly. And by not properly, i mean not working at all. What struck me as odd when I put the rifle back together is that the screw that goes in the rear was difficult to align. I had to push down pretty hard on the grip (rifle upside down) to get the holes to align for that rear screw to thread. Something is not aligned, and likely causing the safety to bind. I did notice a pin in the lower receiver that is not flush, I'm curious if anyone has looked at theirs closely enough to know if this is normal.

I figured someone at the factory over tightened these steel bolts into the aluminum bracket, getting a new one isn't the end of the world as long as everything is working. Problem is though, rifle still has the same problem.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with the upper and lower not seeming to align properly, or if I'm the only one? I'm posting a couple of pics of the receiver for reference. Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Thank you

Running a Timney in my Gen 1. I actually disassembled the lower receiver and after having the halves apart, I had a hell of a time getting them to align properly and get the grip screw in. The safety can get caught up on a few things to my recollection; between the spring, various screws, and torque applied there's a multitude of factors that could cause it to bind.

The gap at the rear of the receiver that you've highlighted looks worse than mine, but mine's in no way, shape, or form even close to being centered and as I said, getting my grip screw in was a PAIN.

Thanks for the tips. I've watched that YouTube vdeo. Great installation guide, but not much for troubleshooting.

TheOE800, I've loosened and tightened everything I can. Nothing seems to change. Last night I went to a friend's house who has a RPR to compare a few things, and the screw under the bolt that connects the two halves is smooth as butter on his, and that gap stays perfectly symmetrical. I also put my lower on his upper, fit perfect. His lower on my upper, same problem.

I'm calling ruger today, but my assumption is that something is slightly off with my hinge assembly and that's causing the screw to be mis aligned. Mayne when they over torqued the screws that attach the bracket to the action something got tweaked. Whatever it is I'm sure it can be worked out, just a little frustrating.

Morgancole, I got my trigger in the mail yesterday. I thought there was something wrong with my rifle till I read this thread. I called timney and they said this was a common problem because of the tolerances of the rifle. And a tech guy is suppose to get back to me. Have you found a solution? Took my rifle apart about ten times. About to throw the trigger in the garbage. Funny how all the reviewers online of this trigger did not have this problem. They dropped it in and it magically works for them. I never would have bought it if I saw this post ahead of time.

Honestly, tolerance stacking issues can definitely be blamed on the manufacturer of the gun as well as the designer of the aftermarket part. I'm not impressed with Ruger's quality.

UPDATE: After speaking to Timney and Ruger, I decided to send my rifle back to Ruger so they could repair it. I received it yesterday and everything is working properly. The repair note from Ruger states they replaced the stock mount top, bottom, screws, left & right side magwell. The left and right magwells are basically a clamshell that makes up the lower. So between that and the stock mount they replaced, that whole area that screwed together which was out of alignment is now fixed.

Took the rifle apart last night and installed the trigger, all is good. The safety is a little stiffer than stock, but doesn't feel like it's actually in a bind. The screw in the rear that was very difficult to thread before the repair now goes in and out smoothly. Although this whole ordeal was an inconvenience, I'm very pleased with how Ruger handled it, and they had a pretty fast turnaround too. July 13th is when I shipped it to them, and I received it back August 3rd.

Dog, any luck with your trigger? The Timney guys also told me they had problems with the tolerances of the rifle. They were nice and offered to replace the trigger, but blamed the rifle for the problems. I guess honestly they may be right. What problems are you having - safety not operating smoothly, or something else?
