Hello Everyone,

I am new to long range shooting and the forum. I am trying to find a good 1000 yard (or even farther) factory cartridge for my .308 RRA. My problem is, I am new to long range and am a little overwhelmed with all the technical aspects of the matter. I also am not a reloader... although maybe someday! I am assuming the cartridge would have to have a reasonably high ballistic coefficient for a .308? I don't mind spending money on rounds but something under or around $30 a box would be nice. It would help if anyone had experience with what shoots good out of their RRA LAR-8. Thanks!

I picked up one of these a few years back I did the 20" chrome moly barrel with the operator hand guard. It shot about 1 1/2" at 100. After running a set of Tubbs finishing bullets through it printed under 1/2" 5 shot groups. The load I used was 43.1 gr Reloader 15 with a 178 gr A-Max in a M118LR with Fed 210M.

The rifle has a Super Sniper 10X on it. I gave the set up with a bi-pod and magazines all with in a Storm/Pelican case to my new son-in law. I turned him to the "Dark Side". Kinda good thing too as my daughter is a 2nd Amendment Lawyer in MD!

The rifle is a tack driver and he has no problems hammering steel out to 800 yds( the furthest he's shot at)

Which model of LAR-8 did you get? I have the 26" Varmint and its a laser!

I would look at Federal 175gr. match or Black Hills has several loads that you could try out from 155gr AMAX, 175gr SMK, 178 gr AMAX or 180gr Accubond.

For the record, I've been shooting my LAR-8 with Nosler 180gr Ballistic tips. But mine are reloads. They shoot great to 1000 yards

Thanks for the info! I got the 16'' standard model. But I have since put a free-float hand guard on it with a bipod. Shoots great I just have never shot it with much concern for long range or tested it for what load shoots best. The farthest i've shot it is probably about 200 yards.
