I said I was going to buy an AR a few months back and put it off to get a new truck but I may have to buy one anyway. The Operator has most of what think I would want but as I have said I have never had one before. I shot with a friend from work yesterday and he had just bought a M&P AR. I told him that I probably didn't need to pick it up but then I did and then I shot it and now I am looking for a new rifle.

Check out other manfactures first. My experiece with RRA is that if you should have a problem with their system they wont back up their products. Also stay away from the Stag Arms gas piston they have out for about 1k. They have major issues with bolt ti;t and the companies answer is buy the POF roller cam. Sorry to bash the 2 above companies but like i said in my experience with them they dont stand behind their products. Check out Loki weapon systems I believe they would have what your looking for and upgraded bolt groups as well. I can build off their upper with a Spikes tactical lower to include a good optic for about 900 to 1000 bucks. Just something to ponder.

I went with the mid-length A4 but added a few options to make it what I wanted. Mine has the stainless 8" twist barrel with Wylde chamber and the chrome BCG. It is a simple no-nonsense shooter. I didn't want or need any bullshit rail type mall-ninja handguard.

With a 1.5-5x32mm scope and 30mm steel rings, it weighs about 8 lbs.

It's about sight radius. And, with a rifle length gas tube/sight base you've got the best outcome for BDC; plus, with the longer radius than carbine or mid, as well as higher velocity, good hits at longer distances are better assured. In addition, with an A4, which is authorized for CMP and NRA governed Service Rifle competitions, you can be rewarded for all the practice you put into developing your marksmanship skills with the Service Rifle.

Regarding RRA's service and support, who knows what shit sandwich this guy created for himself and RRA, but I can tell you (as well as other will echo) that Mark, BJ, Yolanda, and the rest of the crew at RRA will take care of you as a customer.

OK, I see now. The OP was asking about rifles with 16" barrels so I assumed he was only interested in short to mid-range target engagement with quick acquisition sights. But you are right. My 24" rifle length A4 with free-float tube is what I use for 600 to 1000 yards and the 3 inches more of sight radius is better when I choose to use irons.

Seriously though, you could build one up yourself and that way you'll be assured to get exactly what you want/need instead of compromising...and it's fun too. I bought a RRA Elite Operator 2 (same thing as the tactical, basically) with the chrome bolt about 8 months ago and I love mine. I put a Leupold 3-9x40 Mark AR scope on it and at 100yds I can get .8-1 moa groups all day long on factory crap ammo. Let me also add that I am not that good of a shot.
The trigger is one of the nicer stock triggers for the <$1500 AR group. It is relatively heavy but hey, thats what gyms are for right? I really haven't had any problems with it yet so I'm not sure on their customer service.

I was told the wait time would be 3 months but I had the rifle in my hands in 47 days, so your wait might not be as long as you think. I love mine, however, I have one gripe. The M4 feedramps in the upper show bare aluminum, indicating they were cut after the upper was anodized. According to the blurb on Class 3 Weapons website about RRAs, they receives their uppers in the white, and polishes them and finishes them themselves. What I don't understand is why they cut the feedramps after the uppers have been anodized. It would make more sense to either order them pre-cut, or cut them before they are anodized, but to cut them after anodized and leave bare metal exposed seems a tad retarded, especially on a rifle that costs right at the $1000 mark. It may not be that big a deal, but its the little thinks that get me. Overall I am happy with the rifle, especially the trigger!

I've had my RRA Operator 2 for over a year now. Unbelievable workmanship. Tack driving accuracy and the two stage trigger......comes standard! Thinking about buying the. 243 next. Anyone had a chance to shoot a 243 AR?

I have two of there products and have really only called over a couple of petty issues , but I got an immediate answer from a couple of very polite people . my rra 458 socom has been flawless and has took a pounding from well over 1000 rounds of 300 and 325 grain bullets loaded as hot as possible and still be safe.
I am not really sure where some people come up with all the tier what ever crap and the blessed chart but from my experience with my collection which also includes a colt 6940 , bushmaster match target and a couple of johnny cash carbines unless you just up and buy a crapola hesse rifle and your not gonna be launching out of submarines or doing high altitude / low opening parachutes , buy the rifle you like and shoot the crap out of it. dont worry about what the mall ninjas, boutique shop gurus or the walter mitty operatives have to say.

I just bought the predator pursuit by RRA with the 20" barrel. I have shot at least 8 different brands of cheap ammo through it without a hitch which equates to about 360 rounds. I got a pretty decent 10 shot group which measured about 3" at 200 yards using federal ball xm193 ammo. Getting ready to shoot some match ammo soon as I am not able to reload right now.
But basically based on my personal experience the RRA is a pretty decent mid-price rifle and very reliable, you will get your money's worth.
