So I got myself a Ruger 10/22 Tactical a couple few years ago. Its a pretty sweet plinker and has harvested many rabbits for camp meat. it does not seem to like the Remington bucket of bullets gold tips. I get feed problems with it every now and then, usually a few per mag. I have the same problem with the factory 10rd mags and the 25rd banana mag.

Is it just an ammo that this rifle doesn't like or is there something I can do to remedy the problem? I dont notice the problem as much with another brands led tips but I cant say for certain.

It is my first 10/22 as I usually use a marlin tube feed.

I think I will add some electrical tape to the back and sides to snug the mags up and see if that helps. My FTF seem bend the projectile from the brass, not separated, just bent.

Try another brand of ammo (i.e. CCI). There's been a lot of issues with the Remington bulk ammo over the years such as bullets that are so loose that they are at an angle or rims of the cartridge that are too thick.

NO! It's not your 10/22 that's having a problem. It's the ammo! Remington Bucket of Bullets has problems with all makes and models of guns. It's awful ammo where people typically have chronic issues with failing to feed, failing to fire, ridiculously wide extreme spreads, not to mention that bucket of bullets tends to beat them up to where it's hard to see any decent accuracy. IMHO, this ammo serves as fun fireworks where one enjoys the "bang". Though, I can see it being just OK for a revolver shooting at a target 15 ft away. ;)

That is about what I was thinking, just crap ammo. I originally sighted it in with good old CCI, something about the joy that a $2 box of 100 rounds in the slick case from my childhood brings me. But I got these during the shortage scare a while back during the dark years of the last administration.

No kidding, these Remington golds looked like I hit the target with a shotgun, granted it was at 100 yards and my drop calculations were correct, it was just all over the place with a slight cross headwind.

I havent tried them in my Marlin or my Witness slide yet. Whatever it takes for me to eat through the bucket and I will just add it to my list of stuff not to get again.

Eley subsonic hollow, Winchester subsonic, FGMM match, Remington Subsonic. Those all shoot wonderfully. And the Eley Subsonic Hollow thumps rabbits EXTREMELY well with head shots.

I found that all these work well in my cheap factory 10/22 as well. . . . except for the Remington Subsonic as it performed for me as well any of their other long rifle trash, often getting ES's well over 100 fps.

When you try the CCI ammo, use the factory mags before giving up. I got a bunch of the 25 round mags and only 1 of them works. I tried all the internet mods to get them to work. No luck. I bought 12 of the 10 round rotary mags and only 1 didn’t work.

Agreed with the others. Remington’s 22 stuff is generally terrible and I wouldn’t make any changes to the rifle until you’ve tried other brands. Back during the big ammo shortage, I kept picking up PMC Zapper any time I found it. It doesn’t work well in everything, but it’s been the best non-match HV stuff I’ve ever used in my 10/22s. It’s pretty easy to keep it around 1.5” at 100 yards out of my stock 10/22 rifles. Not sure if it’s still readily available, but I’d give it a try if you can find any.
