Ruger 77/22 vs 77/17 difference a trigger makes

I have identical ruger 77 rifles except one is in 17HMR and the other is 22lr. I like the swift preimer scope 3-9x40 and have one on each. My 22lr will outshoot my .17 out to 100 yrds all day long. It frustrates me! The only difference is the trigger. I have a trigger job done on the .22 and can shoot it very well compared to my .17

Just absolutely amazes me how much a pound or two of trigger weight can throw off each shot!

You should definitely put money into the .17s trigger. Then it should out shoot the .22 at 200 yds.

It's not a bad thing, Its just that the .17 is a better round for 100 yrds but the trigger holds it back. I just never realized how important a trigger was till I started shooting over 300 yrds.(with my .308) Squirrel hunting ect, I never noticed a difference. Paper just shows how distracted I am by a hard trigger.

Triggers make a huge difference in any rifle... Needless to say the stock ruger 77/xx triggers leave alot to be desired.

yep, I like the 77/22's, I have one in .22lr and one in .22magnum. Both has shitty ass triggers that really held them back with their grit, creep, and jerky release. My smith polished both lightly and replaced the spring in one. I actually had one done and then the other after loving it post work. One I had him heavy up, he made a target trigger out of it that I didn't feel safe with for walking around shooting squirrels. I think that's the one he put the original spring back in.

It didn't take him 10 minutes per gun. I had originally intended to order a volquartsen trigger sear kit when he offered to clean them up first instead. Glad I went that route.
