Want to load up 20 rounds of Match grade ammo for a buddy of mine who has an older Ruger model 77 in .30-06 I have no idea what the twist rate is. I have 168, 175, 190, 200 gr SMK and most of the common powder used for .22-250, .308, .300WM.

Any suggestions for loads? Not looking for 1 hole accuracy and I dont plan on doing a lot of load development, just want to show him how a decent middle of the road hand load will smoke a Core-Lock.

Thanks

Re: Ruger 77 .30-06 Load

I believe the Ruger's are 1/12 twist. I've got one and use a 168gr Amax over 50.0grs of IMR4064 at 3.240 col. 5 shot groups at 200 yards average 3". Nothing special, but it works for a light barrel hunting rifle.

I've also had success with my Garand load out of it. 48.0gr of IMR 4064 with a 168 SMK.

I haven't done a lot of load development with this rifle. Frankly, I don't think it's worth the time, as it will never be a tackdriver.
