While looking for a lower priced "coyote rifle" in 22-250 or 243 for Nevada's greater distances I've looked closely at the crop of lower cost bolt action rifles.

I've examined the following in person:

1. Thompson Center Venture -> Great quality "feel" but too many complaints of lack of MOA accuracy in almost ALL reviews

2. Ruger American -> not such a quality "feel" but reviews almost universally praise its accuracy (love its 3 lug bolt)

3. Weatherby Vanguard -> good quality and good reviews but pricier, almost in the Tikka range.

4. Savage Axis -> WHY such a crap trigger when they have the Accu Trigger? No thank you.

5. Tikka T3 -> no longer in the "value" price range.(

Looks like I'll be going with the Ruger American. They just need to get better stock material. I'll pillar bed the action bolts myself.

Any other rifles I should be looking at?

Are you looking at Bud's Gun Shop?
The Weatherby (howa)

This seems like a very good price, don't get "wrapped around the axel" by some of the pricing out there. I always check Bud's first. You can't believe how many people will put up used guns for sale, for prices higher than you can buy from Bud's New! They believe the price they paid is somehow magical, and the current market price of new doesn't effect their weapon-or perhaps because they owned it, it is somehow worth a little extra, due to their special status in the industry! Who knows(what they've been smoking)?

Where did you see bad reviews on the T/C Venture? I have one in .308 and it did shoot MOA in the POS factory stock. I now have it in an XLR chassis and it is very accurate.
