Looking at grabbing a Rugged Obsidian 9. It looks like a really good option in the price range for my CZ Scorpion. Anything negative about it I should know? The octane 2.0 is $100 cheaper, but I like the Rugged a tad more. The other can I may consider, if in stock, is a YHM 9mm can.

My friend has a obsidian 45, we put it on my scorpion and it was giggle quit with subsonics. I dont know if the 9 obsidian would be any quiter but i do like the idea of a little larger bore suppresor with a pistol round as a margin of error against baffle strikes. In my experience it just seems like pistols are more prone to a bullet shredding jacket pieces or a little unstable over rifle rds. That is just my impression and could be argued against by some more experienced with pistol cans. I took a hard look at a wolfman for the scorpion as it is highly recommended, but ordered a obsidian 45 as I can use use it on a 22 also as it is serviceable.

I don't have the Obsidian 45 but it's in my plans to get here soon hopefully. I was going to go with a CGS mod9 or mod9sk but I like that with the Obsidian, I can go between having a full length can to shorter can depending on what I'm using it for.

I have a obsidian 9. I really only use it on pistols. I think smaller diameter cans look weird on carbines. It’s okay. Not the most quiet but works fine and the modularity it nice.

Rugged makes great cans, buy with confidence. Rugged would be my number one choice for an all around pistol/9mm carbine can.

If you only plan to use it on the scorpion and never a pistol then a dead air wolfman or omega 9k would also be good options.

I have the Obsidian 45 and really like it. Best part is they use the same dimensions as Silencerco for pistons, direct thread adapters... so are interchangeable. I highly recommend the supressortools.com tool for either the obsidian or the octane. Makes life a lot easier.

I have 4 Rugged suppressors including the Obsidian 45. I LOVE it. I run it on everything from G19, P226, P229, 1911, AR9 and AR45. Its stupid quite with and easy to clean and their CS is amazing. Buy with confidence.

Here my son shooting my Obsidian 45 with my 9mm 165gr sub handloads out of my 7.5" AR9....all you here is the bullet hitting the steel

    Link didn't work for me, try this;

I have an Obsidian 45 and I really do like it. However, there are two things I don't like about it and I have pointed them out to Rugged (with no response).

The first is that the front end cap should be crowned to protect the front end of the tube. The second is the three lug adaptor does not have positive stops on it, such that it is possible to put the can on the weapon and twist the three lug adaptor past the locking lugs, leaving the can just hanging on the little bit of barrel adaptor without engaging the locking lugs.
The first firing will launch the can downrange and it will (most certainly) land at a 45 degree angle and damage the front section of the can's tube. When the tube is damaged, you can't remove the end cap and you have to send the whole works back to Rugged for repair. This whole scenario happened to me (granted, my fault) and Rugged were REALLY good about repairing at no charge and turning it around lightning fast.
But........crown the end cap and fix the locking lugs and none of that would be necessary. Having said all of this ? Would I buy another Rugged suppressor ? Yes. They make nice stuff.

Obsidian .45 owner, sounds great on pistol but really like it on my sig mpx, ran it on a ruger American .450 bushmaster and it tamed it down really well

I have and use the rugged 3 lug and it works like a charm. I never have an issue getting it indexed property. The male adapter also has indexing marks to assure it is mounted correctly.

Another Rugged fan here. I recently needed a mount that in todays world was unobtanium at any price. I emailed them. Day two they emailed back asking for a phone call. Day three, phone call, transaction completed, and the mount was at my door in less than 1 week. That level of customer support is rare and inspires people like me to be a loyal, repeat customer.

Which mount did you get? For the past 3 months I have been unable to find any direct thread fixed mounts in 1/2x28 and .578x28? Someone above mentioned SilencerCo direct thread will work also with the Obsidian. Does anyone know which model this is? Thank you.

I can one up this! I shot my Obsidian having forgotten to put the front cap on at all. Baffles everywhere. Mayhem. I sent it in to Rugged and said I should really pay for the damage, since I was an idiot. They refused, fixed it and had it back to me in a week. Really good CS.

I have the Obsidian 45 versions (in jail technically, but I get visitation rights).

They work very well & it's easy to change pistons at the range if you are swapping between multiple guns.

The 9 is good, but having the 45 version lets you run a lot more stuff including .300 blackout from longer barrels, and you can get a 9mm end cap if you want.

Last visitation we were shooting a pair of the cans with HK45s, CZ 75 pistols of various sizes and even the tiny little Sig P365XL

I don't have any other ones to compare them against, but I don't think you'll regret the purchase.

If you happen to have the suppressor serve it's jail sentence at a place that allows visitation, then it makes the wait a lot easier.
IF you are in the DFW area, there is a good place I can recommend.

I have the Obsidian 45. I used it on my G19 for a while. On a handgun, the shorter configuration is much more balanced and still pretty quiet. Now it lives full-time on my 8" 300blk shooting subsonics. It's super quiet. The suppressor is also very lightweight but durable using 17-4 heat treated baffles.

I like the tri-lug setup, wish they offered those adapters in .578x28... That would probably be a hot seller for them in the .45 can market.

get the Rugged... with NFA items i would personally not choose any company that does not have a track record of doing whats right for the customer since you cant just go to a qualified gunsmith if things go south or even sell it really.

Rugged ticks that box and its why i have a micro30 in jail with an Oculus and Obsidian 9 soon to follow.

Got some PMs about Silencerco direct thread adapters and pistons on the Obsidian 45
    From the rugged website.

i have octane and rugged - get the rugged. Also you may want to get the 45 cal rugged (they make a 9mm aperture) so you have more flexibility and they make a great 3 lug (for a 9mm). I am not a fan of sico finishes - the rugged is very well built.

The Rugged Obsidian is a great suppressor. I have the .45 and use it on .45, 9mm and subsonic .300 blackout. The 9 mm can is a little lighter and shorter but limits you to 9mm caliber. The .45 is more versital.
Apologies - just realized I posted both this and my previous comment without realizing it was within the same thread.

Just an FYI - The Obsidian 9 is rated for more than just 9mm, including .300 BLK:

    Caliber Ratings

Belt Fed Rated for Pistol Calibers up-to 9mm
300BLK Subsonic (with an 8″ or longer barrel)
9×39 Subsonic (with an 8″ or longer barrel)
350 Legend (with a 16″ or longer barrel or longer)
