I have 2 S & B (4-16 and a 5-25) The 4-16 has 1/4 MOA adjustments and the 5-25 has .1 Milrad adjustments. I noticed the 4-16 has more of a positive click (feel) then the 5-25. Have you guys noticed this? Another observation is that the 5-25 has the absolute zero that goes pass the zero mark by 4 clicks then you can continue to what feels like about half a click......but does not completely turn over. Is that just the difference in gear timing between the 2 scopes? Thanks in advance!

Re: S & B users

I have a mil/mil S&B 4-16x42 and a mil/mil S&B 5-25x56 and the clicks spacing on the 4-16x42 is maybe slightly more positive, but to me it's hardly noticeable. My 4-16 has a zero stop at 0 but the 5-25 zero stop is 6 clicks below zero, that's just the way they are made. I just run the elevation to the zero stop then go back 6 clicks to get to 0.

The 5-25 is .6 mils below zero. They both have very crisp clicks, don't notice one being better than the other.

Re: S & B users

I was in the middle of trying to decide between 3-12x50 and 4-16x50. And I had a couple of friends show me their S&Bs.

Here I had in front of me the 4-16x50 (MRAD), 3-12x50 (MOA), 10x42 (MRAD) and a 6x42 oddball:

SuB001%20007.JPG

and I had a chance to feel the clicks on each knob. None of the three PMII scopes clicked the same. They all had different clicks. What's even more interesting, the clicks on the 4-16x50 felt biased counter clockwise. Counterclockwise feeling lighter by a hair.

The MOA knob felt the sharpest. But overall, they all felt great.

Not based on the clickage, but I am sold on the 3-12x50 MRAD clicks and parallax. I just need to find one.

Re: S & B users

That's the advantage of having a matching reticle and knob system as well as having them in a top of the line scope that tracks properly

Re: S & B users

As it has been stated all the Schmidt and Bender's, even the MTC turrets go .4 - .5 of a mil below the zero. I actually wish it would go 1 - 1.5 mil below the zero so I could dial for a 90 degree side prone shot. Other than that, S&B makes a great scope, I actually own 5 of the 5 - 25 mil/mil.

That scope belongs to johnlee. I'm pretty sure it's a 26mm tube. It's the PM 6x42 that was used on the L96 rifles:

It has the cool old school quick detach AI mount:

and a weird 3-post reticle:

I am so curious to feel this MTC turret. I wonder if it's something I'd want.

Re: S & B users

You can get the AI engraved knobs as a spare /replacement part (Part No 307-106 is for windage....not sure about the elevation!)

And yes......my PMII 3-12x50 also has 4 and a half clicks below 0

and YES...I'm loving that green one too

That "wierd 3 post reticule" is the old British sniper style reticule from WW2 days - I have one in my 1944 No32 Scope for the Enfield No4T! The SA80 has a similar centre post but without the horizontal wire for levelling......

not the lower mag ones

You can buy as many as you want new from the factory right now. Parallax always was and always will be an option on most pmII's, there's just not many around.

Anyone know where I can find an old dirty L96 for cheap? </div></div>

I think you could send the scope to Schmidt & Bender and ask them to change your parallax setting from 300 m to whatever you'd like.

I don't think the older Schmidts have the same type of parallax adjustment Unertls had... user/tool adjustable.

Check out eBay. The last one I saw went for about $1500 scope only. and it was beat to shit.

Re: S & B users

I've got a twin to the middle scope(3-12X50) with AI turrets. It's one of my favorites. The coating on the objective lens is a bright greenish color. Anyone know the significance of that?

A couple years ago gunbroker had a green 6x42 for $1100. It was used but in great condition, I should not have passed it up!

Military version with different lens coating at a guess. Something to do with lasers?

Yea, according to Stacey, It's a military coating to protect your eyes from lasers. Incidentally it slightly degrades the image color. Of the few military scopes I have looked through they had a slight greenish/yellow tint to them and were darker when compared side by side to a commercial S&B scope.

Re: S & B users

My 10x42 has the greenish color reflected by the coatings:

AWP005%20065.JPG

The image through my scope looks more "brown" to my eyes than commercial Schmidt & Benders. It's a very subtle difference and one usually has to have two Schmidt & Benders side by side to tell any difference. But there is a slight difference.

+1 Go big or go home! I would rather have the extra 13 power and not have to use it than need more power and not have it.
