I was thinking about getting a mp15-22 as my first .22 semiautomatic rifle but before I buy it I have a few questions.

• I am left handed and want to install both a ambidextrous safety and magazine release. So will I be able to use standard ar15 ones, and will they install the same way?
• Can I install a new trigger if I don't like the stock one?
• what type of receiver extention is used on the gun, mil-spec or commercial because I want to put a Magpul MOE on it.
• How do you install the free float handguard converter from tacicool22 and will I need a torque wrench to do it?
• If I do put a free floated handguard could I use YHM's rifle lenght diamond handguards or will they put to much stress on the upper receiver and possibly crack it?

Thanks to all who take the time and answer my questions.

There is a plastic plug type deal in the front of the hand guard that serves no purpose that I've noticed- remove than and you're fully floated.</span>

Either way, lighter is likely better since you'll upset the balance significantly moving to an aluminum set-up.</span>

Re: S&W MP15-22 help

Thank you DP425 for a quick and very helpful response. Yes I do know the standard handguards are free floated. I just wanted longer rails and some told me back when I first looked at the gun that you will get better accuracy if you swap out the rail it comes with. Now all I will need is for someone to make a dust cover for it and I will be completely happy.

Re: S&W MP15-22 help

Isn't the original safety right handed? Also I know about that wrench already. I was going to get the pro kit one from tacticool22 if I was going to put the free float rail on. I just didn't know if I need any other tools besides that. Sorry that I forgot to mention that.

Re: S&W MP15-22 help

Sorry about that- with some home work-shop skills, you could make a spacer for the aftermarket ambi safety. Shouldn't really be that hard with some hand tools, time and steady hands. Could likely find spacer material at Lowes in the hardware.

Plastic! Agree!
