Some dirtbag broke into my Grandfathers house and stole some money and 2 of his guns. They got his M-1 Carbine that he had from when dinosaurs roamed the earth. This man is 93 years old and would give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar. Sorry for the rant, just needed to vent. Marty

Re: Sad news from Grandfather

Sorry to read this but if I am to understand your Grand Dad is unhurt, that is at least something to be grateful for.

It's tough to lose heirlooms but those things are replaceable.

There is a dire shortage of first class Grandfathers!

I dearly miss mine.

Wow Marty, I think all of us just felt a knot in our gut when we read this. sorry for his loss and glad he is unhurt. all we can hope is that the dirt bags will pay in the end. what comes around goes around. feel you pain man!

Re: Sad news from Grandfather

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. My Grandfather (Popaw) is the only Grandfather I have ever known. My other Grandfather died before I was born. Popaw shares his birthday with my daughter. One is 93 the other is 3. Birth time within 1 hour of each other. To say we are close is an understatement.
What makes this situation so bad is we know who committed this act and it was a FAMILY member. Popaw refuses to let us file a police report because its a family thing. Thief denies act so I can't even buy gun back for him. Family turmoil for Christmas.

Re: Sad news from Grandfather

Hate to tell you this man but it is highly likely that failing to inform the police in this situation may be, in and of itself, potentially problematic for you.

It may be a crime not to file a police report concerning the theft of firearms. Beyond the obvious crime of the thief who stole them, their use in a future criminal act may place your Grandfather at risk as the rightful owner with no record of their loss.

Re: Sad news from Grandfather

Man, it seems like there is no upside in this situation. Mad, sad, heartbroken. Not just the loss of his weapon but the turmoil in the family. It is just a bad situation all the way around. Thanks for the input. I hadn't considered the liability down the line. I will talk to him tonight over dinner. Thanks again guys

Same here!

Re: Sad news from Grandfather

That's just wrong. People need to work for what they want like the rest of us, not just take from the inexpecting. Sorry to hear that. They will get there's in the end that's for sure!!

Re: Sad news from Grandfather

I don't know you, but I hate to hear it. I had the SAME exact thing happen to me a couple years ago. My grandpa had demitia and wasn't in his right mind so he really couldn't remember anything. Stole 8 guns, took over his accounts and stole ALL his money. Got a court order to have the member removed from everything but she still denied taking his guns. I told her I didn't care what she told the police, if she didn't hand them over I would kick in her door and find them my damn self. Got them all back but one she claimed never existed, even though I know it did.

Main thing is to be glad your grandpa is still ok.

+1 For sure, one of the most perfect statements I have read on the site.
