Was setting up a warbelt and ordered an ATS warbelt and put a First Spear assault cobra belt under it. Everything was working fine until I started trying to draw my 1911 from the Safariland 6280 I had mounted on a Safariland mid-ride belt loop mount on the First Spear belt. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get the pistol out easily, when it normally would come out without much of an issue (not being mounted); the problem stems from when I try to pull up and the cobra belt underneath 'gives' a bit and pulls up and out causing some slack and making the grip end of the pistol draw out towards my hip and the muzzle would start pointing away from me causing the pistol to kind of wedge in the holster and not come out.

When I hold the bottom of the holster with me other hand, even slightly, keeping it straight when pulling up, I have no issues with the draw. So if I can remove this cant/movement, I'd be good.

Obviously the mount needs to go. I was thinking either getting the Safariland hardware directly on the warbelt molle or to convert it to a G-code RTI hanger and use one of the GCode mounts I have that goes directly on the warbelt molle. The other option is the EMDOM CM belt (how sturdy/reinforced is it?).

Is having the mount directly on the molle of the warbelt more sturdy/stable than having it hang off the belt with a mid ride mount? Would having a warbelt with reinforcement in it like a Brokos or something like the CM belt remedy this as well or is this more of a belt/mount issue?

Trying to figure out what direction to go with this.

    Thanks

Can ya post a picture of it? Sounds like you need a stiffer belt to work with what you have but until I see what you described I am not 100% sure.

Here you go man. I threw it back together real quick as I had the belt and holster off of it.

First pic is it 'at rest'.

Second is what happens when I try to unholster the pistol.

Third is what this looks like with my hand out of the way (and obviously my body not holding some of the slack back).

I do need something more stiff. I'm just not sure if this is also in part due to the warbelt being an ATS having zero stiffness to it, or that the mount is on the belt instead of directly on the warbelt molle where it would have more leverage.

With that belt loop mount( had to look it up) and the belt you are using, there is going to be play while it's in the warbelt. I'm guessing you don't have as big an issue if you put the cobra belt on as a pants belt with the holster attached. The siloution would be either to get a very stiff gunbelt to go inside your warbelt or to use a different holster attachment method.

I am a fan of the G -code RTI system simply because it gives the user the ability to run a single holster on multiple platforms and goes on/off in seconds. It's also nice becasue if you run different caliber handguns you can switch between the two different holsters very qucikly and as needed without having to take your gear apart or reconfigure anything. The other plus is that G-code is as good if not better than Safariland products QC wise and is less expensive.

I have the GCode RTI for my SIG226 and like it. Was thinking of getting the conversion hanger for the Safariland holster so I can use whatever holster on any setup. From looking at this more, its the mount attachment thats the issue; there is slack in it and it gives (hence why I can unholster if I hold the bottom of the holster straight down). Think I am going to try the RTI hanger and the GCode attachment that connects directly to the molle and may look into a stiffer warbelt as well.

ETA - Just remembered I have an ARES ranger belt; put that in instead and there is a 200% improvement. If I get rid of the mid-ride mount this will run perfectly.

I think I know what you are saying. Did your safari land holster come with the small adjustment guides to make the belt integration tighter? If you look on this G code picture, you will see each slot has a small piece that you can adjust to better fit the size of belt used to prevent what is happening with your current set up.

Here is a shot off of G-codes FaceBook page that has a good set up. I am not a big fan of thigh rigs, any real walking in the mountains of Afghanistan or serious running and you get beat to death. But the rig pictured is a good balance as it still rides high enough that it doesn't flop around. What I like about this set up is that I can take the holster and mount it directly to the warbelt when I am not wearing body armor. However, when I need to wear armor the leg platform give me the added space so the bottom of the armor carrier isn't hanging up on the hood of the holster. The modularity of the RTI wheels and attachment accessories make this my no brains go to set up for holster and pouch/knife attachments.

Have you tried loosening the holster tension screw? The 6280 series has directional draw as a safety feature meaning its designed to bind up in the holster unless you pull the gun straight out of the holster.

From your description it sounds like you aren't drawing straight up and out. If you are and its still binding, loosen the tension screw on the back of the holster near the bottom.
