Safety on AI AXMC short action is extremely difficult to put back on "Safe"

I got a new to me AXMC and for whatever reason putting it off safe is very easy flip of finger no break of position action. But taking it back off fire it is hugely difficult. The rifle has been cerakoted and I put some oil in it but it is too the point where I am afraid I am going to snap off the lever. Any thoughts? Everything else is 100%, and realistically I am not manipulating the switch a lot but kinda an important feature.

Remove your bolt and look under the shroud.

Take the pistol grip skins off and there are 2 silver screws holding the trigger hanger in.

Like everyone has mentioned it's most likely the 2 screws under the firing pin assembly. I had that happen to my AXMC as well. Not sure if they just come loose or from vibrations. I retightened them and somewhat torqued them.

Everything is torqued up tight...especialky the two screws in question under the grip?

No, sorry, the firing housing, I posted when the other gentleman posted.

On the bolt assembly once you remove from action. Flip upside down and look towards rear of bolt. On the actual firing pin assembly you'll see 2 screws. They tend to loosen and will cause this hard safety issue.

Thanks alot TrophyHunter, That helped alot. But same spot, both were tight and I torqued them down and still wont budge. There is play but it doesn't want to go back off safe. I am afraid to bust it off. I PM'd Tom Irwin I hope he adds some info. I even tried to loosen them both and still same same.

I recall mine being stuck once, I took it apart and recall it's just a lever that blocks the pin from firing, then when thrown full back it stops from opening and cocking firing pin.

Currently what position is the firing pin in and what position is the safety in, (fire, safe, lock) ?

Doubt you'll break it off...I've hit mine with a hammer before to get it to engage...this was only after my pin protrusion was adjusted, and my firing pin had been turned down and bolt bushed...it worked fine from the factory, but after the mods/adjustments it was like you describe...u sure the previous owner didn't adjust anything? If you take the bolt shroud apart it's just some small camming surfaces in there, they are just slightly out of alignment most likely

Spoke to hide member i bought it from who has been fantastic, and he stated he never used the saftey and it was always just left in fire position which i could absolutely understand. The rifle cycles and fires just fine. I would just like to have full capability restored even though i could see this gun sitting off safe for months just the same. But at the price i want everything to work.

I have to admit i am leary about disassembling the bolt myself? I dont even have a manual to follow?

its not that complicated to disassemble, but sounds like youd be better off sending it in to AI and have it worked over

Hairy, search YouTube. There is a great video on there that has step by step instructions for taking down the bolt. I did mine when I first got it just so I would know how to do it in the future if need be.

Thanks Jim,

I shot Mile High an email and Adam gave me a call and explained to me about the different cams that the AI safety's have. Said that IANA would probably warranty it but I would have to pay 100$ to ship it anyway I look at it because they will need entire rifle to validate safety. I am probably just going to send my bolt out to Adam when I get a chance and have him replace cam for the next lightest one and he will check safey in a few other rifles he has in shop. Realistically I probably wont use safety that much but nice to have.
