I've looked at the SAKO web site and downloaded the pdf document regarding "Old Models" but I can not find any information on the twist rate.

Also googled lots of sites but I can't really get a definite answer.

I've been told that its got 1 in 12 twist rate but others have said its 1 in 11 twist.

Please note that the action is AII L579 and was purchased about 1980.

The SAKO PDF doc says that the rifle I have is a Forester "Hunter" but when I go to Wikipedia there is only reference to the AII L579 action in .308 Win and not much more info.

Any information would be appreciated on the Sako .308 AII L579.

Also, I have .222 Sako Heavy Barrel Vixen L461 (Purchased about 1979)that I use to use a fair bit. Reloaded with SIERRA 52gr Matchking HPBT. (Not sure of the twist rate on the .222 either (Its just standard not a magnum)

Any info on the twist rates would be appreciated especially the .308

Cheers 308sako

I emailed Winchester, they reckon the .308 is 1:11 and as you said .222 is 1:14.

"push a tight patch and mark the rods revolution"

That's what I'll do tomorrow.

Re: SAKO .308 AII L579 (1979 purchased new) Twist Rate

I didn't try the "tight patch method' as I wasn't keen on getting a patch stuck in the rifling.

Another guys who specializes in Custom Sako's of the early 1980's reckons the .308's of that time have a 1:10 rifle twist and the more recent 30 calibre rifles were 1:11

Winchester reckon the twist is 1:11

So now I have 1:10, 1:11. 1:11&3/4 and 1:12

As they say, when in doubt..................
