Sako muzzle brake question?

I received my Tikka T3x tac a1 yesterday and it comes with a Sako muzzle brake. The installation instructions say nothing about needing to set the timimg...just screw it on and tighten the clamping screw. Does that sound correct? I am assuming that since it was in the owners manual it is correct but thoughtI would ask just for safety sake.

"It shouldn't need a washer/ shims as its a thread and pinch collar brake. It may not index butted up against the barrel shoulder, tighten it all the way up to the shoulder then back it up that poofteenth so the ports are horizontal and tighten the collar. Its no different to the larger original Sako/blaser brake as they were the same."

Yes, basically thats it. There is a cross bolt that tightens the threads and locks it in place. Also you will find a little screw on the top of the muzzle break, this is for their mirage band and you can remove it otherwise it always sticks out. Same goes for the forward screw on your scope base, you can remove it. If you try to tighten it down you'll bend your scope base.

SAKO TAC Muzzle brake attachment for M18X1 thread will not align properly. Book says attach muzzle break until it reaches end of the thread. Says you know it is positioned correctly when gas ports are positioned to the sides and the mirage strap fitting screw is pointing upwards. However, I'm finding it to be just the opposite. The muzzle break can only be tightened down when it is upside down on the muzzle and the mirage strap fitting screw is facing down. Any suggestions?

I level my rifle front to back and left to right, remove the mirage band screw and then screw the brake on until it touches the barrel shoulder, then back it off until the hole for the mirage band screw is facing up and level the brake left to right using the top flat on the brake then tighten the pinch screw.

I have a Snap-On 1/4“ Drive In-Lb Torque Wrench (you can buy a cheap Torque Wrench online for infrequent use). My Brake get’s torqued to 10Nm or 89In-Lb but check the documentation that came with your‘s for the proper torque spec.

I’m not a fan of Harbor Freight Chinese tools but if all you need to do is torque your Brake you could get something like this: Harbor Freight 1/4” Torque Wrench

If an allen key is not enough I would suspect that there is something in the way. Dirt, loctite or wrong screw?

Both of my Sako's just require a light torque to lock the break from moving. Thread on till it bottoms, turn till ports are evenly out the side and tighten the pinch bolt. It's easy. No tricks to it.
