I have a sako trg22 308win 1:12 26''barrel, I am using Hogdon Varget, 150 FMJ BT, what's the best loads for a 150 FMJ? (100 to 300 yards)
I tried 150 FMJ 43 to 45 gr, and my trg shoot 1.5 MOA at 100 yards, how come? My tikka tactical 24''barrel 1:11 one using the same loads can shoot 0.5 MOA at 100 yards, Is it means a 1:12 26''barrel TRG22 have to use heavier bullets???
Anyone have a TRG22, what weight bullet are you using?

What does the Hornady manual say? I am surprised that you are getting such large groups with a TRG, but maybe that rifle just doesn't like the lighter bullets. Have you tried Sierra 168s?

Tried that 43.5 of 4064, but never got to the .5 extra grs. 43 shot one 5 shot, ragged hole at 100. Started @ 41.5 and worked up in .5 increments. Started to feel the recoil difference at the 43. Still have a few 43.5 to try. Rem. 40X

Re: SAKO TRG 308 Varget Loads

I shoot a TRG21 using Varget 44gr with Berger 185's vld's for 600-1K matches. I had been shooting Black Hills match 175 and my groups at these distances were rather spread. Prior to that I was shooting 168's and the spread was even larger. My rifle doesn't like match boat tail either. VLD's works very well for me.

Re: SAKO TRG 308 Varget Loads

I have shot 308 loads with 155 Bergers and 175 SMK's which give equally good accuracy, about .6MOA group sizes averaged over several 5-round groups, out to 600 yards. The jury is still out at 1000 yards. I get the same accuracy with Black Hills match ammo. The loads are (the standard) 45.0gr Varget with 175SMK and 46.8gr N150 with Berger (not VLD) 155gr using Win brass and Fed match primers. I don't know about the quality of 150gr bullets, but see nothing to suggest the TRG can't handle bullets of this weight.

The loads were developed by a friend with a TRG-22, and shoot equally well in mine and another friend's TRG. We compared chamber measurements and the bullet jump is the same within .001" for his and mine. These 3 rifles seem to be almost identical.

b.t.w. our rifles have 1:11" twist.

Re: SAKO TRG 308 Varget Loads

One year ago Shooting Times (december issue I believe) tested all 165-168 grain bullet loads using all availible brass, and primers in a TRG with Varget powder to try and find one that would match or best 168 Federal Gold Medal Match.

I will tried and find the copy and post results if you would like.

Re: SAKO TRG 308 Varget Loads

Hey guys, I just tried 168gr HPBT bullet today, My TRG shot 5 rds best group 0.38'' at 100 yds~ , big big different between 150 FMJ.
50rds test, 5 rds for a group, 10 groups no bigger than 0.7'' at 100yds, I am happy with it now~

Re: SAKO TRG 308 Varget Loads

I use 44 varget and 168 AMAX. Everything I shoot through my TRG is sub MOA.

1/2 inch dots at 100 yards.

Howewer, wfanfan, try 175 SMK or 170 LAPUA, you get the best results. I don't know Varget because i use Vithavuori, but 1/11 is perfect for 170 and 175 grains bullets
