Has anyone found a good non-flammable cover for their work surface? My bench top is wood and I'm trying to keep the inevitable salt mess from splattering all over it. A plastic sheet doesn't seem like a good idea given the temperature of the salts.

My work surface is wood, and only every once in a while I get a little splat. It causes a light brown spot due to the flash heat, then solidifies/cools damn near instantly. You could put some aluminum foil down if you want. Good heat absorbing and cheap.
I use a large rectangular baking tray, I think it is about a 1/2" deep so it is nice and low but will contain all the salt within the pot should it spill.
I have the old cookie sheet that I stole from my wife (bought her a new one) but I figured I'd make a bigger mess than it would contain. The foil sounds like the perfect cover for a little larger area of the bench. Just what I was looking for without having to buy more stuff to make this work. Thanks!
I used the cookie sheet under the melting pot on the bench with the water bucket on the floor. I've not experienced any hot salt splatters.
