Hello folks.
Been browsing the Hide for a while and I must say, I'm hooked. This site has helped educate me and greatly improve my shooting. But like some people here, I am no longer satisfied with "good enough." I am now at the stage in my game where loading is the next big step to improve my down range accuracy. For now, I do not load, but my friend does. He has developed loads for .243, 7mm-08, .308, and 300wm that have produced great results in my rifles. Because my wallet took a hit with all of the shooting that I am doing, I was thinking of a cost saving short cut. I'm sure you guys here have already discussed this at great length, but my searches through google mostly turn up errors.
In developing a load to hunt with, I purchased 140 gr. Ballistic Tips to shoot paper with, and figured my friend could just replace the Ballistic Tip with the 140 gr. Accubond, load everything else the same, and be able to hit the field. He tweeked the Ballistic Tips until I was shooting sub half moa. But when he loaded the Accubonds, groups opened up to about 1". I have shot the loads on several different occasions to make sure it was not me. His rifle shoots both bullets exactly the same. I like to hunt with 140 gr. Accubonds in my 7mm-08. Every deer I have hit has dropped. My shots are all under 200 yards, so the 1" groups I get with it are good enough. But now I've got the bug. I want to stretch it out a little and maybe extend my kill range to 3 or 400 yards max. I would like to get the Accubond shooting like the Ballistic Tip.
In theory... Can (should) the Ballistic Tip and Accubond shoot the same if loaded the same? With the same specs on the bullets, shouldn't they? Before I start questioning my friends loading process, has anyone been able to achieve this? I understand that all guns shoot different and that my rifle may not like certain bullets. If anyone has tried this, please give me your thoughts, opinions, and findings. If this has been discussed at length already, I apologize, and ask if someone can provide the link to the thread. We can always just find a load with the Accubonds, but half the fun is learning. Thanks folks.
Bill
