Re: Sarah zeroing her 700/XLR Evolution

It is really nice to see a woman, and especially a mother, out doing this sort of thing. Within my agency we wrestle with the population becoming more urbanized and getting away from the natural world, where our food comes from and pursuits that are common in rural communities.

For years we have targeted education efforts at youths. I think we are missing the boat to some degree. Generally speaking, if momma doesn't want little Johnny out shooting, hunting or fishing; Johnny won't be out there, unless there is someone prominent in the family who'll take him. Within the last few years we have had really good success with women, especially single mothers who have no one to help get them started. Shooting and fishing events aimed at this segment of our population should help, but more females of all age brackets in our ranks is a big part of the solution.

BTW, we have some ADLs that I put in new B&C stocks that shoot far better than I thought they would.

She was a little hesitant to get into competition at first. She was worried about looking silly. When she realized how much support she had from other shooters as well, she really got into it.

This is going to be her competition rifle. Additionally it gives me another needed opinion on the XLR Chassis. My review on it is almost complete. I just need to get the video review shot.

She is definitely shooting Sunday. I am not sure if I am going to shoot or just coach. It's easier for me to teach her if I am not shooting, but we will see.

No this is actually a built up/improved rifle range with real berms.

I think she would fight you for it. I know where you can get one of your own though!

All kidding aside, it is great she gets out. I totally agree with the philosophy that if momma don't like, little Johnny/Jane isn't going to get the chance to do it.
We hold a once a year day at our range called Ladies Night. From 1400-1930 women can just come out and shoot. They can bring their own guns if they want. But, they have to keep them cased until they get to the firing line. Most everybody brings a couple different firearms for them to shoot. Ammo comes out of the volunteer's pocket for the event, unless it is a common round which he will use in his firearm. We then take donations and the actual cost of the ammo is reimbursed to the volunteer.
This year I brought a .223 HB bolt gun, my 5.56 AR Carbine and my 6.5 Grendel. In that four and a half hour period I ran over 50 women through on the .223, 40 on the 5.56, and 22 through on the 6.5 Grendel.

LonewolfUSMC, you are doing a great thing!

Soooo.....you were standing around one day with half of 'em sticking out and she took a stick and pushed 'em back in for you... And that was it??? Of course, she probably slapped a band-aid on it to make you feel better. That's probably what did it.

Re: Sarah zeroing her 700/XLR Evolution

Just an update. She shot this rifle in a local match yesterday. She tied for sixth out of eleven shooters that was with very little training on the platform. Once she gets a little more comfortable and comes out with me for some training days, she is going to be fighting for first.
