I have a Savage Model 10 FP and am looking at upgrading the stock. I am stuck between a Manners or XLR. I have a friend who has an AI Stock on his Remington 700 and enjoys the convenience of a chassis based stock. I also went to my first competition this weekend and saw many rifles running McMillan or Manners stocks and the shooters seemed to like them a lot. Does anyone have any personal experience or opinions on the two different style stocks such as molded Manners or McMillan stocks compared to a chassis system such as the XLR stock, especially concerning a Savage SA .308?

Re: Savage 10 FP Stock upgrade

I've had a Manners T2 and currently have two McMillan A5s on my Savages...those two particular stocks are very similar (A5 has a butthook, T2 does not) and the T2's palmswell is slightly larger than the A5 but they're kind of a "flip a coin" proposition.

Can't speak for a chassis system, but folks seem to like them quite a bit.

Re: Savage 10 FP Stock upgrade

I have shot with the Savage 10BA rifle, and I have shot with an AI, I have shot with a McCree, and I have owned a McMillan A3, and I have owned Manners.

I now ONLY own Manners stocks. Strength, ergonomics... nothing else needed.

While I have not shot with the XLR, people do seem to like them. I personally don't like the AI magazines or versions thereof. I just use the factory Savage bottom metals with my Manners, and use my magazine systems with them.
