Savage 110 - 6.5 Creedmore

First time post.

Been thinking of a bolt action in 6.5 Creedmore. Looking for something to have fun with and not take super precision too serious. I Have hog hunted with my AR-10 a few times and it works okay, been thinking of selling my AR-10 for a bolt action 6.5 Creedmore to use for hunting as well. I also have membership to a range with a 1000 yards.

Any insight with the Savage 110's? Also been thinking of a Aero Solus , but I'm a little hesitant given there is not much feed back on these rifles.

Although mine is in .223, my 110 Storm has been a solid rifle, VERY accurate, good action, VERY good trigger on mine. Also, this may well be the only positive response you’ll get on the 110 on SH.

I’m one of the few positives, too. I have a .308 o 110 tactical in an Oryx chassis that I shoot club FClass matches with. With my handloads it’s pretty consistently at .5moa. It can and has done better .375 moa. 24” barrel with a 4-20 Tract Toric scope. Would I go the Savage route again, even with as good as mine does with my handicapped decrepit ass pulling the trigger, nope. There are better options out there for not much difference in price.

I have 3 Savage rifles that I have enjoyed very much and they have served me well. In particular, my Model 12 LRPV in .223. It has been very accurate out to 500 yards as a primary range gun. That particular model , while marketed by Savage as a varmint hunting gun, is very much a target rifle IMO. Single shot, heavy , with a truck axle for a barrel. Having said all that, my relatively recently acquired Tikka T3X Super Varmint in 6.5 Creedmoor has made me a Tikka fan for sure.

Savage 110s have their quirks but for whatever reason they have always shot for me. Bolt is not the smoothest (tactical knob helps ALOT), new gun might have a few marks here and there, etc. I am a bench shooter and use mine for coyotes. I personally absolutely love the accutrigger dialed down to 1.5lb. All issues go to the back of my mind when I shoot mine (I have 3). My latest 110 tactical in 6.5cm gave me this group within the first 30 shots with Hornady 140 match. Savageshooters.com is also a wealth of knowledge to ask questions. A few years back I picked up a 110 in .308 and tinkered with it, swapping the barrel, replacing the stock, adding DBM bottom metal, and finally replacing the trigger. It hammers with 168gr SMK, but realistically I took a $500 rifle and turned it into a $1600-1700 rifle. It was fun, and I learned alot while tinkering, but I think there are better options if you look at things dollar for dollar.

I do like the 110, though, I ended up buying 2 more for deer hunting.....but again, spent additional $$$ on stocks and a few extras.

They shoot as well or better than many others.

You do need to be familiar with how the bolt works, and keep spare parts in stock. Not uncommon to lose an ejector or extractor.

I have an old 112 long action 22-250. It's a dumb rifle, but the damn thing shoots less than .25moa. Best group was .23 at 200.
But it rarely gets shot, because it just isn't nice to shoot.

The Savage gets grief, but they are perfectly serviceable. I think it's just the tinny little parts that put people off, but i've never seen one that didn't shoot. A bloke a used to shoot with had the model in the Bell and Carlson stock and he was right up there next to the big boys with scores. If you can get one on a good deal and it's going to get you into the bolt gun community, do it mate.

Do you need a brake or threading for a suppressor?
If not the Savage 12FV from Cabelas/Bass Pro can be had for about $400.
The stock is absolute junk but you can drop it in a KRG Bravo for $400.
Grab an AICS metal magazine for $70 (I like Accurat Mag), a Savage tactical bolt knob for $30, and a Rifle Basix SAV-1 trigger for $100 and be setup for right around $1,000 plus glass.
