I purchased a new Savage 110 Elite Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor and it came in with a black spiral fluted bolt body rather than the gold bolt I've seen in ads and on other such rifles. Their advertising does say bolt body color may vary with production date, but says nothing about some being fluted. Its serial number is R10XXXX. Is this a newer or older production rifle? How do I tell its production date from the serial number? The bolt serial number does match the reciever.

Did you ever figure out what happened here? I'm looking at buying one of these as well, but it looks like it should come with a titanium nitride bolt. Did you buy direct from Savage?

On their website the photo shows the fluted bolt and a 3 year old video shows the TiN bolt.
I personally think that the TiN bolt looks hideous.
All I woud do is replace the bolt handle with the longer tactical factory handle that MidwayUSA sells for $33.00

I purchased it through my FFL who got it NIB from one of his distributors. Its bolt is black. I was hitting steel on out to 1280 yards with it last weekend; started at 500 and hit steel every 100 yards or so. It appears some bolts are gold body, some black. The rifle shoots.
