Well I decided to give Savage a try again. I owned one for many years in .30-06 but sold that one to my brother. Here she is:
When I cycled the bolt it would stick about half way down the receiver. So I pulled out the fat wrench and checked the action screws. Both were about 25 in/pounds. With the bedding block it was suppose to be 40-45 in/pounds. I tightened the front to 35 and the rear to 30. What do you know, the bolt cycled smoothly. They said the length of pull spacers can’t be stacked. I am a tall guy and needed a longer length of pull. Went to a Lowe’s and pick up three inch screws and stacked the two longest spacers together. Perfect. I had Cabelas mount the scope so I decided to check the base and ring screws. All lower than recommended so I tightened them to the correct specs. Took it out to the range. I bought Hornady Superperformance165 SST. First group picture is 100 yards. Made scope adjustment Then I pushed it out to 200 yards second picture. First shots 200 yards out of the bull was a ranging shot. Made adjust and shot four. Yes should have stopped at three with the pencil barrel. Fourth shot was high right but in the 2 inch bull. Not bad. I can’t wait work work up some loads.
I think this is a keeper. I did order a Witt Clamp on muzzle break. I can handle the recoil but would like to spot my shots. Clamp on break because the barrel is .580 at the muzzle and too thin to get it threaded.
