Does anyone have any experience with the Savage Ultralite Elite? I’m intrested in getting one in 6.5Creedmoor, but I can’t find much data or reviews on this rifle. I’m specifically curious about any issues with cycling the action.

I’ve got a standard ultralight in 308 that I bought because it was clearanced down to $800. The way I see it I bought a Proof CF barrel for a good price and got a free action and stock that’s just ok. It’s as accurate as you’d expect a Proof barrel to be and I don’t hate the rifle overall, but it’s still a Savage.
There’s no way in hell I’d pay what they want for the Elite when you can build out a custom on a 700 for not much more. MDT BF sale is coming up in a couple weeks so you should be able to get a HNT26 for 40% off or so. Origins can be had for $850 and $800 for a Proof prefit. You’d end up with a better rifle for the same money.

Thank you for the info. I really like the Chasis on the elite and the Barrel. I don’t have much experience with Savage actions, but from what I’ve seen it’s a real concern.
It’s just an ultralight in a HNT26. You can buy the same chassis and barrel and put it on a better action.
Yeah, I’m looking at that. The price of buying the barrel and the chassis separately without the action is getting close to $3000. So hoping to find someone with this rifle to give me some feedback on their experience with the action.
If you’re looking for some feedback from an actual owner/shooter of this particular Savage rifle, you might be well advised to ask on another web site. One would be Savageshooters.com ( 110 subforum). Another might be the High Road ( Rifle Country subforum).
I guess you ignored the part of my post where I said you can get the barrels for $800 and MDT is doing a sale in less than 2 weeks where you can pick up a chassis for 40% off. The barrel and chassis aren’t $3K unless you’re an idiot and pay full retail and then some. More like half of that.

He's trying to save you the disappointment of having a clunky ass savage action sitting in a sweet chassis with an accurate barrel on it. He gave you good advice, over and over. That savage will be accurate, most of them are, especially with handloads. The gun will be pretty light, the components are there for it. The action will be clunky and bindy, its a loose floppy savage. She'll be a shooter, but still be a savage. They are a great low price action for a starter gun. That action is pretty low on my list when I start thinking about guns that are 2k.
Thanks for the input. Yeah, I can’t get past the action. In the promotion pieces I’ve seen, Savage talks about improvements to this action in the ultralight elite. So I was hoping to find some people with this particular rifle to find out what their experience is with the rifle. The more I read the less I want to mess with this rifle.
It may not always be his opinions, he obviously is quite knowledgeable when it comes to firearms. It may be how he expresses them. I know, everyone should “ man up “ and not be thin skinned. To a point, I agree. Nonetheless, it may be that being called a “ fucking retard “ is off putting to some folk coming here for advice and council. Unfortunately, I’m afraid that the folks that may have purchased this rifle and have hands on experience with it will likely not want to provide their opinions on this thread as they are already being labeled “Fuckjng Retards.” So the whole intention of this post is fairly tainted.
I think its likely that there arent many guys on here that have purchased it. They likely have a savage and or know all the stories of how sloppy savage actions are and that they could build something with a nicer action for not much more money. In the end they're proud of the gun and the way it runs instead of cussing themselves over a clunky ass action that binds. There are two savages in this house. Both accurate, both clunky as fuck. Go to a store and play with one if you dont want to listen to the advice given here. Or buy one and then you can give advice that the action is still clunky on the elite when the next guy asks. Good grief.
Just curious. What model(s) savage rifles do you have? I have a 110 Storm and Model 12 LRPV. Neither has an action that I would classify as “ clunky “, whatever that might mean. Neither binds as well. Actually, I have to say that the action on the 110 compares pretty favorably to the one on my Tikka Super Varmint, which is surprising. The bolt lift on the LRPV is heavy, but not obnoxiously so for me. It’s a range gun, shot slowly so no big deal.
110 .308 varmint and a 110 .260 rem. They both work and very accurate, for what they are. Clunky means the bolt flops around when its open, its not smooth, the bolt lift sucks, if you run it hard it binds, etc. Point is if I was going to have a high end carbon barrel and an HNT 26 I wouldn't want it on a savage action. I have both with a CDG. Its night and day to the savage actions and worth the extra money all day everyday, to me. Again, savages are ok for a $500-600 rifle, not 2k. Fine rifles are just that and if you know you know. If you love your savages and they work for you, great dont shoot a nice action and save yourself some $$$$.

I’m in Canada so the availability of some custom actions is limited. When the CDG was introduced in the USA for $899 it was selling for $1499 Canadian. It is now selling for $1199 in the USA and $1798.50 in Canadia.
It is hardly a “budget” action at that price.
I competed with Savage model 10, 12, and 110 actions for 13 years before building my first “custom” rifle. In those 13 years I have never had a rifle go down in competition. My average round count is over 2,500 round a year through Savage actions. All of my Savage rifles use AICS magazines. The bolts on Savage rifles absolutely feel sloppy when fondling them but I’ve never had issues running them hard or fast.
The other issue here is finding a gunsmith who is less than 6-8 months out which is another reason for my preference of prefit barrels.

Saying that it’s a couple of hundred dollars difference between a Savage and a custom action is untrue.
The difference between a Savage action and a custom action doesn’t always translate to a higher score.
Here is the 12FV barreled action in an MDT LSS-XL my total cost excluding the Schmidt & Bender and bipod was $1350 Canadian.
That is 1/4 the cost of my Ultimatum Precision Deadline Gen 2 in the MDT ACC chassis.
Only the OP can decide if the difference in price is worth it.
If it is truly only a few hundred dollars difference I would also tellthe OP to go the custom route.
If we are talking $1,000 or more it depends on his budget.

Also Canadian. I won't go into my opinions on Savage, but OP is specifically asking about the Ultralite Elite. Quick Googling pops up none in Canada, so direct conversion of Midway's cheapest offering is $2892 USD or 4032 CAD direct conversion @ 1.39, ignoring things like import fees and other stuff we get boned on in Canada. You can definitely build off a custom with similar specs for roughly the same cost. Using various discounts like Black Friday deals, I built one up last winter as the following:
ARC Nucleus 2.0 (~1400)
IBI CF prefit (~$1000)
TT Special (~200)
Insite Heathen brake (~$230)
MDT HNT26 folder and arca (~$1200).
That put me around $4030 for a rifle that's a bit heavier but with a significantly nicer action for basically the same cost. Point is, once you start buying Savage's higher end offerings, the price differences are small. Building up a custom vs a $2400 CAD Savage 110 Elite Precision is still very doable as well. I build my original Nucleus 1.0 for around $2800 in 2019 and the discounted component prices haven't changed much. You'll have to run a cheaper chassis, but it's a helluva lot easier and cheaper to sell and upgrade a chassis down the road than it is to upgrade from the Savage action. Running a custom isn't nearly as cost prohibitive as it used to be. On the low end, no arguement. Yes, the Savage will be of better value, especially for people looking to just pop off a few shots a year for hunting or making noise.
Thank you all for the input. I'm no longer giving any thought to purchasing the Savage. I'll be looking at a custom build based on many of your comments and recommendations. I greatly appreciate the feedback and guidance.
