Little background: I mainly shoot 2 and 3 gun matches. My local matches regularly go out to 500-700 yards though, and a friend and I hand load 77gr rounds for it. Combined with buying a Labradar, starting to do more dope calculations, and having people at matches constantly talk about PRS - I have started looking in to a 6.5CM setup to try out PRS.
Forewarning - It gets a little scatter brained from here.
I'm not necessarily trying to go crazy out the gate, but I also am not trying to buy a starter rifle I'll be looking to replace everything on after a year or two. I went down that rabbit hole with my 3gun setup. I will also preface this by saying I have a 6 week old, and am currently armchair quarterbacking this thing since I have a couple months before I will really have the time to actually go to an event. Plan A would be go hold a bunch of peoples rifles, but I don't think I have the strength and patience to wait that long. I am also left eye dominant, which complicates things a bit - specifically when shopping for a used chassis.
Research so far has lead me to the following if I were to build:
Origin action, prefit barrel (probably proof research), MDT ACC chassis. Chassis is a huge cost and overkill, but I'm not gunna lie I just like it. Still learning the terminology, but I am looking for a chassis more along the lines of the ACC, not the Oryx.
My issue is (rough math): $1000 action, $600 barrel, $1000 chassis, and $500 in trigger/muzzle brake/barrel vice etc. - you're at a >$3000 rifle. For $2425 I could just buy an MPA PMR and call it a day. Given the resale on one of those, this seems like the safer route for a first long range rifle vs. going the custom route.
Thought #2: a Savage 110 Elite Precision can be had in LH for $1600, which comes in the MDT ACC chassis. So effectively $1000 less for the action/barrel/trigger vs. the above build. However, certainly not the same level of refinement and reliability as the origin action.
Summarizing all of this in one question:
For a first PRS focused rifle, is there a better option I am missing between the Savage 110 and the MPA if I'm stuck on having a chassis?
Thanks!
