It lets a guy get into a serious long range cartridge for just a thousand bucks. So I was wondering if it is good stuff or sucky. Thanks.

And a better stock.

Or buy that one and upgrade the stock.

I gotta say Im pretty dang happy with my FCP. That 338 Lapua just sucks the life out of big hogs. It is a stone cold ruthless killer in the field.

I asked that to my gun store and the gunsmith laughed and said, friends don't let friends by Savages. Apparently they have had problems with Savage actions under duress situations and swore the brand off. I was about to pull the trigger on a 110BA, but bought a Rem 700 338LM instead. I have no experience with Savages vs any other model, so I myself have no opinions. People seem to have generally good results with them here on this forum, though I have seen some complaints.

From what I have seen first hand with Savage the only real complaint I have ever seen is they are ugly. You will always have haters and they will hate.

I hear it every day. Rem has horible triggers they will just so off. Glock will blow up if you use hand loads. If you are only needing it for self defence why use a sig when a hipoint will work. Haters hate.

i have people ask that all the time to me, My response is simple. "mine and my families safety is worth the 1300.00 i spent and i will never "doubt" my sig in a fight, will you trust your 140.00 hi point with no doubt in your mind?"

To the o.p. i have been saving for the 110 model and saw the 111 hunter model earlier tonight, after consiferation save the 250.00 more and get the 110, better stock, heavy barrel, and asthetically more appealing in my opinion.

I think you meant to say was "if you use hand loads with already fired brass"[/i], the glock weakens the side wall of the casing when fired because of design that makes them so reliable. That is why you need to use new brass every time if you plan on reloading.

A couple things... One, I thought this was about Savage 111's? I've got the 110BA (I know, not a 111, way closer than a Glock tho), ugly as sin, I'll admit, but it's as accurate as I can shoot... Cost for ammo, not so horrific if you reload (a must with 338LM) Smooth and crisp action. Got rid of that chunk of base... Put a 30MOA Rai from ATRS on there, love it. I think the 111 is a tad light for a 338, personally, i agree, the 110 FCP would be a better choice...

PS.Glock with reloads works just fine, my buddy and i reload for our 9mm, mine is a beretta 92SB his is a Glock(can't remember the number) no issues, even with 4 and 5 times fired brass...

Savage makes great rifles...and their quality has gone up over the past few years. Spend the xtra cash for the heavy barreled version...it will be worth it.

Re: Savage 111 338 Lapua - suck or not?

I was really interested in the 111 too, but after handing the 10/110 FCP I liked it a bit more.

I've had nothing but good experiences thus far with Savage rifles. I have a 12BVSS in .223 that will shoot under 1/2 MOA with factory Black Hills ammo and just picked up a 10FCP McMillan in .308 that will do the same.

I'm thinking a lot of the time when folks bash the Savages they don't have any first hand experience with them.

Spend the extra and get the 110. I had the chance to hold and use both before I bought one. I just got mine a few weeks ago and I am very happy with it.
