Savage 112 -BT Competition Grade Questions

OK...I am a new guy here. Big fan of Remington rifles and have had a few (LTR, Sendero...blah, blah, blah). Never have I thought of buying a Savage rifle, until I ran across a 112-BT Competition Grade in .308 with a new barrel. Questions: Anyone know anything about these rifles?? Is there an aftermarket stock avalible for the 112-BT .308 long action? I looked on HSP's site and I only saw short action. Thanks in advance. Let me know if anyone thinks this is a good purchase. It is listed at $600.00 and I'm thinking I could get it for $550.00
Also, just to add, this rifle will not be used for hunting. It is a heavy "Mother"! LR target use mostly

Anyone, anything? .............I keep thinking about this rifle but I just can't make myself commit to it until I hear something positive.

I had one. At the time, I couldn't afford the match-grade ammunition, so I traded it off. When I shot FGMM, I could outshoot a guy who had a Knight Stoner AR-- and it just killed him my Savage could outshoot his expensive AR.

If I could find one for $550, I would buy it if it were in good condition. It was fun to have, but you will find the aftermarkets are just not there. As you know, Remington 700 rules in that arena.

I think anyone here would agree Savages are probably underrated, but just don't have the baseline stock to get it up to speed to run with the big dogs.

But again, for $550, it would be worth just having to see what you could wring out of it.

That's kind of along the lines I was thinking. We only have one range here that is longer than 100 yds and it is a memebers only place that is priced just a bit too high for my liking and for what you get. So I mostly shoot .223 in my bolt guns anymore as I sold my Sendero some time back and just kept the LTR in .223. I am making a trip (finialy) to see a good friend I went to school with who lives in Yuma, AZ, and they have a mile or more (I know the .308 isn't going that far but I can push it to a grand) and I was thinking of something that would get out there just a little farther than the .223 without breaking my pocket book before I took the trip. Thanks for the reply! Think I may give it a "shot".... no real pun intended there...

Welcome aboard. I have owned three of the 112 BT's. Two .223's & one .308, all were very accurate. IIRC Savage spent quite a bit of time & money on those barrels. I thought that it was nice to be able to switch from scope to irons without a problem. Hind sight is always 20/20. I feel I would have been better off if I had just kept the Savages long enough to wear the barrels out. From my experience I always felt confident in taking a Savage to the firing line.
