What kind of steel is that... has alot of dimples... can't be AR500 can it? If so, how did you get it so dented?

How were the winds... looks pretty calm. oh, I see you put it in your post. I find even 4-6mph winds mess up 308 175SMK at 1000 yards, but don't really affect 300 Scenars and even 250Scenars at these distances. The 338LM caliber and some of these bullets are nice outcomes on the search for ELR platforms.

Thanks, had a lot of fun. the steel is AR500. i had it about 75 yards with the 223 and that's how it got it dimples. the 338 is a beast.

the rifle was new. i had only 25 rounds through it and took it out to 1650yards. i think it was 2hits in 5 shot. the wind down range was moving all over the place. 16.6 mils up 1.7 right. it was a lot of fun.

Just ordered a 110BA in .338 LM. What have you found to be the most accurate load for 1000+ yards? Looking at shooting both 250 grn and 300 grn in Lapua Brass. Have you had better luck with any of the following: Sierra Match King bullets, Berger VLD or Berger Match Tactical? Got any suggestions on a good powder and load to go with the bullets to get me started? I would like to try and shoot 1760 yards at some point just to say I did. Thanks and great video.

You are going to love this rifle.This is the first time I shot the rifle. I shot it at 150yards to sight in the scope and put about 30 rounds in. Then I took it to 1650 yards. Shot about 70 rounds. It took me about 11 round to hit the target first. I hit the target 3 times. The barrel was hot and waited about 15 min to cool down ever 15 rounds. The recoil is a bit harder then my 308. I have friends with the same rifle and H1000 powder was the best for groups and its a very clean burning powder. I have only shot the 300gr Berger otm for my rifle. I like them because of there high B.C. Other have said the Berger is a lot better then SMK. I'll be doing some testing between the two in a few months.

I would use H1000. Here are some velocity of the chrono.

89.5gr 2682 ES 11 SD 5
90.0gr 2706 ES 22 SD 11
90.5gr 2724 ES 22 SD 11
91.0gr 2735 ES 17 SD 8
91.5gr 2756 ES 52 SD 28

Im getting ready to throw some powder for development loads for my new Savage 110fcp Hs Precision. Using H1000 and starting at 88gr. going to 92gr. in .5gr increments. Ladder testing 2 rounds of each charge wgt. and hopefully i'll see some good nodes to start working with. Im doing these tests on 2 bullet types, the Berger 300 hybrid OTM and 300 SMK. All testing will be done at 300 yds. A light barrel break-in procedure will be used during the tests and all rounds will be chrono'd and recorded. New Lapua brass, neck sized and F215m primers are the other components.

When did you notice signs of high pressure? What was your most accurate load? Nodes? Any advice?

90.0gr had the best SD and ES reading , but 92.0gr was the best group on paper. .7moa at 150yards. I found small pressure signs at 92gr and 92.5gr the primers are starting to get flat but the bolt was ok and no ejector marks. Alot of savage 110BA shooters use between 91-92gr of h1000. I going to stick with 92.0gr and see what would it do during the summer months.I have seen 93.0gr at 2815 fps with pressure signs. I would stick with the 300gr Berger otm. They have better quality control.

I heard Berger makes a 250 grn VLD but have been unable to locate anyone having the bullets. Do ya'll use 300 grn for all distances? I have read that some use 250grn out to 1000 yards then 300grn past that. Heard the 300 Berger fights the wind better at distance. Thanks for sharing your info.

COAL is 3.702. I think the mag is 3.850. </div></div>

3.850 is the mag outside dimensions. You can just get COAL 3.740" + or - to fit the mag.

Nice shooting joe! I've been working with Retumbo but Im going to move on to H1000 and N570. The biggest problem I've found with Retumbo is the soot around the neck will glue the brass in the chamber now and then. I have to clean the chamber about every 10 - 15 rounds to keep it from building up and sticking. I'll gladly give up a few fps for the cleaner burning powder.

My savage barrel twist is 1:9. its made for 300gr bullets. your better off with 300gr or maybe the 285 hornady for long distance.

Joe, can i ask where you got that reloading data from? Seems pretty hot... I emailed Berger and for H1000, they are showing 80.0@2470fps - 84.3grs@2600fps... Any more info on this would help a boat load...

As far as other powders, I didn't have real good luck with Retumbo. It was accurate but only at levels that would cause a stuck case now and then. Last weekend I ran a test with N570 and I was very pleased. Very consistent, good velocity, no pressure singes. I have Reloader 25, H1000, US869 on the shelf to try yet.

Joe, thanks for the vid, and for the info, I'm going back to the drawing board tonight, will update when I get to try these bad boys out... As for powders, I'm going to be trying US869 with my 300gr. Sierra's. I'm loaded from 99.5grs to 104grs in .5gr increments...

PS. US869 is kind of a pain in the ass to work with(ball powder) I use a Lyman 1200 and for the first bit when the dish is empty, powder bounces everywhere... Had to throw charges and then use the 1200 to trickle the remainder in...

Retumbo is a dirty powder. A lot of soot around the neck and poss causing the case's to get stuck. h1000 is a cleaner powder. what was your testing results on the n570? I would like to know. thanks.

I was running 4 shot groups at 200y in gusty 5-15 MPH conditions with loads ranging from 88gr to 93gr. Best groups came in at 91.5gr and 93gr. More vertical spread at 93gr. 91.5 looks like a good place to center around. Need to run some more and test seating depth and jump. I believe I was achieving 2750 with the 91.5gr charge and 2820+ with 93gr (chrono was picking up the guy next to me so my velocity data is a mess).

Most of the groups where at or sub MOA. The two above where sub 3/4" MOA.


No pressure singes whatsoever, even at 93gr, easy extraction (even the primers looked good). I had the same thought about the Retumbo and gluing the necks in the chamber. Not sure if that's what it was or not. In any case, Im done with Retumbo as long as I can get my hands on N570.

yeah the highway is prob another 1 mile away, but had he or one of his friends accidentally fired one off at a higher angle, the highway could have been reached? I haven't done the Shooter calc's on such a scenario, but in our CCW training they said a 22lr can reach a mile. So how far could a 338LM reach?

On the N570, my load is right at 92.0 grains, providing 2730fps on a 300 Scenar. No pressure signs. I was warned by someone who I would tend to believe that excessive speeds and powders will burn up the throat fast on a 338LM, so watch out for going as fast as possible even without pressure signs. You might be prematurely wearing your expensive barrel out.

I know on 303 mk4 rifles they used to have VOLLEY sights setup for the 303 round at 1600 meters. Try lobbing a 338LM you could I bet push a round way way out.

you'd have to punt that rnd at a crazy angle. even @ 3K its a 53 mil hold and in the 800fps range. dropping damn near straight down. be a fun test tho, like a damn mini-howitzer. haa

The freeway was about 1 1/2 miles from the target. I have to shot it at a 20deg angle to reach the freeway.

The 338 barrel dont last long due to high pressure. it just give me a reason to buy another barrel.

The S & B scope I'm getting does 93mils and is a 2000 yard scope. According to google 2000 yards is approximately 1.43 miles. Sorry for the frown but I don't want a video like that to make us shooters look bad.

Understood. its so hard to find a place out in so cal to shot long distance. there is a hill be hide the target that would block those shots.

Good luck on 2000 yards Joe. I finally got all my reloading equipment in and should be loading some soon. Are you sticking with your previous loads of 92.5 or changing? I have the Lapua brass, Federal 215M primers, H1000 and the Berger 300grn OTM. What was your most accurate load for the 110BA? Do you think it would vary much since you are using the cci primers and I am using the Federal 215M? Thanks. Your posts and videos are great.

Thanks,its going to be fun to shoot out to 2k. My load was at 1650yards was 90gr of H1000. This time I'm going to use 92 gr of H1000.My best groups were in the 91 to 92gr.I think 91.5 was my best. primers may not do much but I like CCI because they are a lot tighter then the federal. thanks for watching my video.
