Ok. I have posted about the Savage Axis 6.5 creedmoor on here in a few places. I am a hunter not a 1000 yard shooter. Maybe stretching out to 500 yards. I want to rebuild this rifle, remember for some fairly long shots. Keeping the barrel although factory. I know buying a different rifle could be another choice. But I like the rebuilding part. It's in my nature. I will be replacing the trigger with a timney trigger for about $150 or so. New pillar bedded stock. Several hundred dollars. I know. By now with a little extra $$ I could buy a new rifle. But still to me it is all in the rebuilding. What choice of stock should I get to fit this rifle barrel?Be nice and be gentle. Not that I don't think that you would be otherwise.;)

With it being mainly for hunting I would get a traditional looking stock. Boyd’s stocks are a good place to look and Stocky’s is another. There’s a Bell andCarlson on eBay so B&C is another good place. You should be able to find something you like at one of those places. I would get one with the aluminum bedding block like the B&C or Stockys accublock. You’ll get better accuracy with them usually.

Thanks.

All Axis are long actions, so only one size to choose from. There are very few Axis options/upgrades out there. Get a Boyd's stock and put some pillars in it but don't waste your $$$ trying to put a dress on a pig.

I’m not very familiar with Savage rifles but you should be able to find the correct stock with the model name/number and caliber it’s chambered in. The barrel contour is important when ordering a stock also. Measure the spacing between the action screws and the diameter of the barrels muzzle. Armed with that information you should be able to find what you want. If you aren’t certain call the place that has the stock you like and they’ll make sure you get the right one for your setup. You mentioned getting a pillar bedded stock in your post. Pillar bedding is okay but full length aluminum bedding is much better in my opinion. I know Stockys accublock is and some B&C are but I’m not sure about Boyd’s. I wouldn’t get a stock that wasn’t especially if I planned to keep the rifle. Just my humble opinion

I read the actions on the axis are all the same size, 4.8 inches between action screws, neither long or short but medium. They use different bottom metal on the axis actions depending on the chambering and some are long and others are short. Ain’t that some shit. The 6.5cm is typically short action but I would call so not to buy something you can’t eat. Like I said, I’m not really familiar with the Savage rifles and the other fella might be right. Good luck and happy shooting

A fella on YouTube used a Boyd’s Varmint in a less than $500 build. He added pillars and bedded the action and it turned out pretty good especially for the little bit of money.
Like CellTech said don’t try to put a dress on a pig.
If you wanna build a rifle find an old r700 in a wood stock with a walker trigger and use it for your foundation. Lap the bolt lugs, reduce your trigger pull, bed the action and free float a remage barrel. You won’t have $600 in the project and it’ll be a nice rifle not a pig.
