Savage b22 fv-sr

I have a ruger American predator in 6.5 creedmoor in a magpul stock. Shoots great.

I bought a savage b22 fv-sr because savage has great reviews, and the factory stock matchs the magpul stock. So far it shoots lapua center x at 100yds around 1 inch groups.

My question is I know this savage is not a crazy custom 22lr rifle but can I get accuracy on steel to 300yds? I will be trying it out to 250yds this weekend. What is a decent group size at 250yd? Atm it has a BSA sweet 22 ( I know its cheap) but it will be getting a swfa 10x soon.

I got this rifle as a trainer. Should I expect to replace it? Does anyone else have one of these rifles?

Keep the chamber clean and you should be good. If you do start have extraction issues, a little stoning of the extractor to increase the angle of attack on the rim can help. If you remove the extractor/ejector from the bolt, use this method to keep from killing the spring tension:

I have a Savage MK11 BV that won't extract the used cartridge. I had the bolt reblued after reworking the bolt handle and adding a knurled bolt knob. I don't really think that is the reason for not extracting the spent cases. Could it be from too much lead and carbon around the chamber area...

While it may not be the most accurate 22LR (but not a slouch either), the B22 FV-SR rifles are damned good given their cost.

I have hit steel out to 500 yards with mine using just CCI SV. Put a decent ammo in it and you might be surprised at it's capabilities.

I have savage Mark II, and have had no problems at 100 yards.

Daleo8803, You said your getting 1 inch groups at 110 already. Thats GREAT! Up grade your optics, buy a shit load more of that ammo, and smile! As far as groups at distance, it all depends on the ammo. See the thread here about shooting at 200yards.
I have a Savage MKII , All I did was to replace the stock, and made a new bottom metal .
People watching my niece, and nephew hit clay pigeons at 225yards with it at the range, priceless!

A lot of people talk trash about the Savage but I used a MKii FVSR as my match rifle for quite awhile. I put it in a Boyd’s stock and as long as I got it an ammo it liked it shot amazing. My only real gripe about it is the magazines. The magazines are not made well at all. Once they start to wear you need to keep an eye on them or they will start malfunctioning. Once you figure out how to tighten them up they usually work well again though. I still have it in fact as a back up rifle.

I have 10 magazine's holding 10 rounds, and been using them for over two years with no issues of the magazine failing.

I had three 10rd magazines that were all about 3 years old. All three started to fail at the same time. Unfortunately it was at a match. If I loaded 10 rounds in one of them it would spray all 10 out of the magazine as soon as I put it in the rifle. All Three didn’t do this but all three were having issues. Do an internet search. It is a very common problem and it seems like sooner or later all the magazines do it. There is a fix for it though. It is just an issue with the Savage that anyone looking at them should be aware of. The issue is the little tabs that hold the magazine together start to loosen over time and the magazine opens wider. The fix is to clamp the magazine back together and mushroom the tabs a little to hold everything together better. Not a big deal or difficult fix.

Once you find the ammo it likes, you should be golden. Wolf Extra Match is what I’ve been using now. @1bdvet , have the lefty too. Mated with a McCree chassis. ??

Understood. But the original poster has a B22, not a Mark II. The discussion turned about Mark II mag reliability and I wanted to make it clear that their are differences in his rifle and what was being discussed.
