Mounted a nikon buck master 4.5x14 with some high aluminum leupold rings. Gun was shooting low and left. Made my corrections for windage and then ran out of turret adjustment for the elevation. Beginning zero is 25 yards It is still a foot low at 25 yards and the elevation is maxed out. Bad rings? Bad rail mount (savage factory mount). Do you shim picatinny rings. Thoughts?

Thanks

Re: savage mk II trr-sr zeroing issues

You may have used up enough windage to not allow the scope's full range of elevation.

Check that the screw holes in the receiver are drilled in a line true to center. If they are straight, the base may still be cockeyed. Try pushing the base forward against the screws as you're tightening them down. That may help in centering the base on the receiver.

Or, (assuming that the holes in the receiver are in-line) ditch the factory mount and get a 20 (or more) MOA mount from EGW or DI Products.

You may then want lower rings as a canted base will jack the eyepiece up a bit.

Re: savage mk II trr-sr zeroing issues

^ what he said, plus the rings may be too high off the bore at that close of a range causing the elevation adjustment to be maxed out, especially on that overkill TRR base.

with the 40mm obj and a base, you should be able to easily use med rings, and possibly get away with lows. hopefully you have an extra set of rings around to give it a try.

savage was having a problem with the mounting hole in the receiver in few of the older models (as mine was), i don't know if they had fully corrected it.

Re: savage mk II trr-sr zeroing issues

My cousin & I both got TRR SR's. I mounted a 5.5-22x56 NF & he mounted 6.5-20x40 Leupold. With the factory tri-mount he was 12" low at 100 yards with the elevation maxed out. I was able to get a 200 yard zero with the NF with not very much elevation left. We ordered EGW 20 MOA bases. I had to use some Burris Signature rings with the "0" in the front & the "+20" MOA along with the 20 MOA EGW base for the Leupold to get the bullet strike 41" above the 100 yard zero. This should get him a 300 yard zero.

Re: savage mk II trr-sr zeroing issues

My old Mossberg with receiver cuts for scope mounting shoots fine at 100 using nothing but holdover as it is sighted in at 50 yds. It sounds like you have another problem as there should be no need for a 20 MAO mount for this range. When you mounted the bases did you check them with a straight edge for true. If not you should do so and you may find that shimming the base may solve all your problems.

+1, I was able to fit a 4.5-14 buckmaster using the factory FV bases with TPS low rings. I have a 25 moa DIP rail now and there's ample clearance.
