I have a savage model 10 chambered in .308, It is the model with the bolt release in front of the trigger guard. I am wanting to move it to the side of the gun to open up my options on chassis systems. I have read I will need to mill a spot on the receiver (I am a machinist so this is not an issue) but I cannot find any info on location or any dimensions. Any help is much appreciated, I will probably be back with many more questions in the coming months as I start into my first big project modifying firearms.

I don't have any drawings, but I do have a model 10 with the side bolt release. If you're interested in particular measurements that can be taken with a set of calipers I can certainly accommodate that.

I've got a bottom bolt release and was pretty bummed to find a lack of options too. That being said, I went with a McRees chassis and couldn't be happier with it. XLR's chassis have the ability to work with the bottom bolt release actions too. I know that doesn't help if you're dead set on a traditional stock where the options become pretty limited...

I will have to look I to the mcrees I called xlr and didn't get a call back, someone might know the answer is it compatible with other ar style grips and but stocks? Right now I'm kind of set on the mdt tac 21 right now but trying to stay open minded, I appreciate all the help!

Works with any AR stock and buffer tube. He recommends against styles that don't use the carbine but they can be made to work. That's a magpul UBR under my stock pack. I guarantee you hear back from McRees and it will most likely be Scott himself.

Kyle from XLR has stated in other threads that the grips are GTG if i have a flat back or top so to say. And this link with explain the butt stocks. XLR Industries | FAQ

Check out the XLR Tactical Butt stock, I have it on my Element and its pretty sweet.

The depth of cut into the receiver should be .060. It is 1.095 long with the last .035 being a nice radius going towards the barrel. You are making a wise decision to get rid of that sear you have in order to have stock choices which are much better for the top sear with bolt release.I measured a long action but I think it is identical on all rifles using this sear.
