So a few months back my friend had given me his sons old Savage Model 11 in 223. I had to wait to pick it up from my FFL since he didn't live in Colorado and I was on rotation in Germany.

It came stock with the black Savage stock and a Bushnell 4-12 duplex reticle scope. My son wanted it and he has shown a lot of responsibility ( even though he is a high functioning autistic child) so I decided to let him have it. He wanted a scope like mine which is the Vortex PST with the EBR-2C Reticle.

I am not a wealthy man so we make do on a lower budget. I saw a Vortex Diamond back tactical 4-16 for sale on here for a great price and bought it for him(he will be paying me back through chores). Had a one piece mount laying around so put it in that and showed him how to level it.

He wanted to paint the rifle stock so he has been watching YouTube videos and finally decided on the fishnet pattern. I bought him the paint and he wanted dark blue and black. He did everything right for the prep work. We used Dupli-color engine paint with ceramic in it.

i love my son, he is my stepson, but I claim him as my own and never refer to my children as step-children.

Here is the he aftermath of his gunsmithing. It may seem small to others, but he made me truly proud doing this project.

He is now a young man, 16 and a junior in HS. He is part of the JROTC program there and was recently promoted to SGT. I, sadly couldn't he present for his promotion, due to being in Germany. He truly wants to join the Army and serve his country, be t because of his autism, will never be able to. We push him everyday and he knows the phrase, " I can't" isn't allowed in our house.

Sorry, this just made me more of a truly proud dad today.

Here is the rifle how it sits now. I was stupid and forgot to take a picture of it beforehand.
