SB or any for that matter. Correct me if I am wrong, but in regards to the 42 v 50 mm obj. The difference will only be at lowlight? If you need around a 7 exit pupil then with the 50 you could use it at around 7 power v around 6 power on the 42? Is that it? Does anyone have any experience with the two sizes. Seems as though the lower mounting height and less weight of the 42 would be better? No? thanks in advance.

I have the 42mm and it is an outstanding scope. My favorite so far. I also have the 3x12 50mm. Honestly, and I'm being totaly subjective, the 3x12 50mm seems brighter. The 4x16 42mm has greater magnification, but targets (esp. light colored ones) seem more intense through the 50mm scope. Wish I had the 4x16 50mm to campare with. If I could do it over again, I think I would go with the 4x16 50mm. I do like the low profile of the 42mm though. Not sure this helped.....

Since the Badger/ Seekins 34mm ring options don't let you mount the x42 significantly lower, why not have the larger x50 objective?
Below is a picture of my Crusader with the x42 mounted.
You can see how the objective bell is kind of "hanging out there".
That said, I think your decision should be primarily driven by the type of reticle you want.
I am lucky to have found Premier GenII XRs in my x50s, which are getting harder to come by these days.
If I had a choice between a x42 with GenII XR or XL versus a x50 with standard S&B Reticle options, I would opt for the x42.
Bottom line, you can't go wrong with either scope.
This would be my choice.

Premier tested the 42 vs the 50, and that the difference in light gathering and exit pupil due to any difference in objective size was so small that it would not be a noticeable factor to a user.
That, and the 42's are usually available with the Gen IIXL, which is the way to go.

Incorrect in my experience my friend. I have both, used them extensively and there's not a notable difference in light gathering between the two.
IMHO get the one that's available and the one you can find the best price for. FWIW, Frank gave me the same advice awhile back and it's proved to be spot on.
