Hello! I just received a Belgian SCAR 17S with 40 rounds on it. Rifle is in outstanding condition with little to no signs of use.

I recently disassembled it to install a KDG Mrex rail and noticed, in the two front barrel retaining screw holes, that there is some rust on the threaded portion of the barrel going into the extension.

I did some research and was able to find two threads that discussed this, but neither answered many questions.

Has anybody here experienced this before and is it a non issue? Additionally, what would be the best way to remedy this? I had originally planned on hitting it with Corrosion X or WD40 Specialist and then cleaning that out or is there a better way?

Thank you for the help!

I have same problem with my legacy 22LR semi.
It has one action screw hole rusted.

I have just kept it always oiled so no more damage will occur but I'd maybe try temoving it via electrolysis:

Here's the overview: Submerge the tool in a solution of baking soda and water, connect a battery charger, and let it sit overnight. By the next day, the rust will have sloughed off. The beauty of using electrolysis for rust removal is that you're not abrading the tool and removing metal.

It looks like a clever operation, and should not take a big jar for a certain spot.

It looks like the rusted spot is left blackish, I am not sure what kind of stuff that is, but the rust is gone so just oiling it right away should do the trick. You could maybe do few turns there with an oiled Q-tip and call it a day.

Tbh, I do not think that the rust there will cause issues during the lifetime of the barrel, but nobody likes rust on their toys and I agree with that.

I know FN uses a hi-temp adhesive there...could it be discoloration from heat?

Do you have any more information regarding this?

I am VERY new to the platform and have been trying to find more technical information like that.

I had wondered if it might be something along those lines. The instances I've seen it mentioned were on rifles that weren't abused or anything. There was no corrosion or rust on these rifles, but they have "rust" on those threads. Definitely going to try and find more about this!

Well. I’ve had about 4 SCAR platforms and they all had some kind of adhesive in there on the barrel extension. It starts out white-ish...
