Anyone getting this type of speed, or is my chrono whacked? Shooting a 26" GAP 46.5gr of Varget. just slight marks from the ejector, but no signs. 15 round recorded, and all a little above 3200fps not much deviation in FPS, next is to try it at diffrent ranges.

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

My buddy is pushing over 47 grains and he is not getting anywhere near that speed but he is using a 20" barrel. I have a crusader with a 23" barrel. I am loading 45.5 grains of varget and getting 2840fps..

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

I got slightly over 3000 fps with a 26" barrel. But mine has a slower tiwst (1:12"). What is your twist?

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

your chrono has a problem. 46 grs with 155s should net in the 2825-2875 range with a 23-26" barrel. I get 2975 with 46 and a 30" tube. 3200 is WSM and Win Mag territory for them with a 26" or longer tube.

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

I'm sure that it possible if the chamber and throat were cut for that , I know a fella that is pushing a 208 A-max to some crazy numbers considering its comming from a 308 but the chamber is throated so that the base of the bullet is just to the shoulder junction.

I would say that the chrono is a bit off if your not seeing more pressure signs than that , but its possible

I had a 300 Win built on a Sako action with an Obermeyer barrel 1-11 twist that would routienly shoot 150+fps faster than any other 300 win the loads were shot out of including one built on a Rock Creek 5R barrel that was an inch longer!!

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

I'm getting 2925-2950 from 47.8 gr Varget from a 24" tube.

With a slower powder you might be able to get 3100 from a 30" tube within acceptable pressure sign limits.

+1. Color me skeptical as well.

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

For your next confirming test, I strongly suggest being careful about the angle of the sun to your chrono.

I had some .357 Mags clocking over 2,000 fps with what should have been 1,400 fps loads, because I had my back to the sun and the gas cloud expanding laterally as it went forward from the muzzle was tripping the stop screen, shall we say, a bit early.

Changed angle of fire 90 degrees so the sun was at my side (SAFE location--I like open desert), and the speeds AND velocity variations went back to normal.

If you're stick with the sun at your back, shooting through a blast shield to keep the gases away from the chrono would most likely help a lot.

I shoot 45.7 gr. in one of my .308s w/ a 25" tube. It runs 'em over 2900 fps.

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

I think the chrono is on crack. According to QUickload you would be running somewhere in the vecinity of 99K PSI to pull that off, and that with the charge your running should be about 2940-2950.

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

Ok I did some yardage testing, I never did get my battery, but @
300yds/w a 100yd zero, my group averaged 10.75" low, and @ 200yds it was around 2.7" low. I changed up velocity speeds to match my drop, and JBM said to match those it was about 2911.0fps
Probably not the best way to get my results, but it puts me right about what everyone figured, so I am sure the chrono, was wacked!!, thanks all for the input it was much appriciated, thats why I love this site.

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

If you want to back into a velocity, based on actual drop, I'd strongly suggest moving past 300Y. You'd also need to track temp and baro pressure so you data is as accurate as possible.

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

Thanks for the info!! I did put in the correct temp, and Baro: my only issue is I dont have a place past 300y yet :(, just moved up here, still looking, thanks for the info

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

I am 46.3 Varget and 155 SCE in new Lapua brass with 210M and get 3051fps out of 25" Shilen select - started at about 5 in the lands - 2.910 goes over the screens at 3051fps.

Same load at 2.895 - about 5 out - will go over the screens about 2978fps.

Shoots 1 on top of the other at 100 but opens up at longer distances.

I flattened primers with 44.7 4064 at 2.81 OAL. Velocity was "only" 2830 or so from a 22-inch barrel. The bullet holes *ARE* .30 and not 7mm, but I'm now wondering if I have the highest-pressure barrel in the land.

Re: Scenars 155gr@ 3200fps in a 308 ????

My friend is running in a AIAW 24" barrel a Varget load 47.9 a Lapua case, 155 Lapua bullet Loaded out 2.9? 2900-2915 Fps Groups .600 at 300 yds. Federal 210 flattenen a little but we all know they do that with little effort. Changed to Russian LRM looked much better
