Hiya Guys,
I just purchased a second hand Schmidt and Bender PM 5-25x56. Its an awesome scope, I had a Nightforce before and was very happy with it till I looked at how clear and crisp the Schmidt was and how clear and crisp the reticule stayed at all magnifications.
My problem is mounting it.
I have just read the online manual here >>> Online Schmidt & Bender Manual. and rather than make things clear it has totally confused me.
My understanding now is this.
Schmidt and Bender scopes are made at the factory with the reticule canted high in the tube to give maximum elevation for long shots. To compensate for this and to allow you to make use of the cant they recommend you mount the scope on a 20-40 front downward canting rail.....Am I right so far???
The rifle that I am fitting this scope to is a New Tikka T3 Tactical in .223.
Tikka T3 Tactical
I will be using it for long range varmint shooting and on the range out to 1000yds.
Would I still need the canted base for these uses or would the factory fitted flat picatinny rail do the job ok ???
In addition I am a litle confused with the explanation as to how to use the turrets. I have used rifles for many years and am very familiar with Nightforce turrets, how are the Schmidt turrets different ???
The online manual tries to explain about lifting the turrets for fine adjustments.....whats all that about ???
Also, I am looking at different mounting rings and am not sure which to use. Accuracy international bases are already canted at 45MOA to suit the Schmidt and Bender scopes and seem to be quite reasonably priced..... Are they any good though ???
Accuracy International 34mm One Piece Mount.
As I am from the UK I can get this bases for as little as $200.
Or should I get a separate canted picatinny rail and some Badger Ordanance type mounts???
Badger Ordanance USMC rings.
If I was to purchase the USMC model Badger mounts what height would I need ???
Your help and advice would be very gratefully received.
