Rifle Scopes Schmidt Bender 3-27x56

Yes I have one. I love it. Better glass than my 5-25 no tunneling and a very usable top end. Mine is h59 I use it on an axmc for elr shooting. 34 Mil elevation is awesome. Some point when LRR comes out in this I’ll add another and move this one to PRS type rifle. It’s the one scope I would not hesitate to buy again. If you want to know anything more specific just ask.

P.S. everything I could find online said it wasn’t worth the extra premium over a 5-25 for 2x more “buy 1.5 new or 2 used for that money” that was wrong. As soon as I used it the first couple times I knew it was worth it. It’s more scope than 2x power on top end. Some will say I’m just trying to justify my extra $ spent. I’m still happy.

I too have a 3x27 with the H59 34 MIL elevation. I also have 2 5x25 S&B. So i can give you my take on both. The main difference between the 3x27 vs 5x25 the eye relief is much less forgiving on the 3x27 and parallax is also much touchier. The glass is great as you would expect. Unless your going to shot ELR i would stay in the 5x25 realm. I have shot some PRS style matches and don't think I ever go passed 20x magnification.

Yea I was hoping it would be a good blend of wide fov at the low end and good top end mag, but if the eye relief is tight it might not work in awkward positions.

Gilly, do you know the total internal elevation range? My understanding is that the 34mils is the turret amount, right? Is that different than the total amount available in the scope? I saved up for another scope whose reticle turns out to be m'eh and I'm looking at this S&B in LRR-Mil. Asking myself if it's worth the ca$$$h...

Running it on my AI between the rail and the Sphur mount having a total of 40 moa in them I can dial almost 32 mil which is a long ways off with my 300 norma.

Great optic, I have one on my 338 Norma, I also have 5-25's. At the price 5-25's are going for on the new and used market (sub 3g) I'm not sure it would be worth spending the extra on the 3-27 unless your shooting ELR, it's a perfect optic for ELR. I don't regret the purchase at all and don't find the eye relief finicky.

By the way all of the 3-27 have 34 mil of internal travel, even the one with the 26 mil turret. So the 26 mil turret version you just can't dial all 34 mils, so when you have a 0 moa or 20 moa base on your rifle you still have all 26 mils available to dial. You can also upgrade the turret to 34mil for $500 if you wish. Used 3-27's normally go for reasonable prices, if you can pick one up used for $3500 it would be worth it over a 5-25.

Have you thought about it in a PRS setting at all? That’s mostly what it’ll be doing. I don’t see why it wouldn’t do as well in this area as the 5-25 if the eyebox and eye relief aren’t picky. Thanks

I have my 338 in the classifieds, if it sells I'll move the 3-27 to my Impact PRS rig. It will work just fine in that arena, just not sure you're gaining anything over a 5-25 for PRS use. I rarely dial below 10x or above 20x for PRS so the lack of tunneling or 27x top end isn't giving me any advantage over a 5-25 and the extra 8 mils of travel isn't really needed for PRS either. Optically it's an incredible piece of equipment, so if you can find one for the right price I would give it a shot, but if your looking at spending 4k plus, it's not giving you any advantage in your game over a 5-25.

Would you say it’s better than the 5-25 optically as was noted above? I’m sure it’s at least the same, just wondering if it’s “better”
Also what reticle are you running?

Every now and then I see the 3-27's for sale on Eurooptic, CameraLandNY and Mile High down in the $3500 range, at their normal price they are at Tangent Theta level which I think is hard to justify, but those who own them seem to really like them. I've never had one but been tempted multiple times but am going to wait to see if the ZCO is all its hyped up to be, my guess is when the LRR-Mil and MSR2 become available for the 3-27 we'll see some great deals on the other reticle versions...
