School me on NRL

So I am trying to get me a bolt action 22 to shoot until the ammo craze hopefully goes down. Came across the nrl competition talk and it sounds fun and cheap. I would like to know how to get into it and where I can find matches that are near me.
As far as gear goes im looking for help on what rifle to get. Local shop has the RPR and the b22 precision at like 479$ for the rpr and 529 for the b22. I know other popular options are the b22 fv sr and mk2 fv sr. These are both under $300 and seem to be pretty darn accurate as well. Are the chassis rifles really worth the extra coin if I am just getting into it? And if they are what are the biggest detractors from the other savage options.
I saw that for the base class you have to stay in an msrp under $1050 or something like that so whichever rifle I would pick up would have an affect on how big I could go on the optics.
Just wanna be lead in the right direction so I dont make a bad purchase. Thanks

if you want to spend the extra money and your are sure that is what you want to do enjoy it voodoo's look really nice I shoot for the enjoyment of it . But could only ever see my self spending that kind of money on a 22lr if I knew there was a winning golden lottery ticket in it for me . but people spend there money on what ever it is they want good luck and may what ever you end up getting do what you want it to do . you don't need anything but you , your gun and ammo and a lot of practice good luck with what ever you decide to do or get .

Im looking to get started as well. Picked up a tikka t1x and a bunch of ammo to practice and start with and i can upgrade later if i really get into it. Found NRL22 matches/club on their website NRL22.org

I am a Match Director for the NRL22 and NRL22X matches. You are correct, it is cheap and fun and a great way to learn. Be warned, you'll get hook and spend more money on a silly ass 22LR then you ever thought possible.

Base class is a great way to start. Any bolt action rifle is fine for that. If you wish to upgrade/continue later look at the Tikka/Bergara. High end the Vudoo and RimX dominate.

Can definitely attest to this. I am around the $8k mark in my Vudoo which is well beyond my original expectation.

While some leverage 22 as a trainer, I treat it as a separate discipline. It does enable you to work on the fundamentals minus recoil management with the lack of recoil compared to centerfire.

You might also enjoy the American Rimfire Association game (Factory Class). It's addictive! You have a rifle that can should 1/2 moa groups at 50 so you'd think it would be easy to shoot a perfect card....

As a MD of NRL22, NRL22X and will be joining the PRS Rimfire, I can tell you the "Base Class" is a great "intro" into the sport. However, it was not intended for seasoned shooters to hangout in and dominate the class intended for newbies. Personally, I would get a base gun as close to the $1050 as possible, then throw an elcheapo scope on it. That way once you become more seasoned, keep the base action and re-barrel, restock, upgrade to awesome scope, etc.

Not sure of your location, but I am located in south/central Illinois and hold our match the 2nd Sunday of each month. 10 stages, 100 rounds, 25y-250y. Facebook name of Aces and Eights Firearms.

I picked up a mkii fvsr today at the store. Also found a good amount of ammo at different stores. 750 some odd rounds of mix and matched 22. Its awesome how easy and cheap this is to get into, even with the ammo shortage the way it is.
I've got a SFP diamondback tactical 4-12 sitting in the closet so Im gonna throw that on there until I figure out what I want for a scope.

Those tikka t1x rifles are sweet. I was checking them out before I bought the mkii. Maybe I'll pick one up once I get some experience u der my belt and feel a need to move up
