School me on the "best 6mm"

I know this has been done to death, but I can't really find a definitive answer so I'm throwing it out there again....

Use-
70% shooting groups off a bench
30% prs

I don't currently reload, but I am getting set up to do so as we speak, i havent bought brass/dies yet as im undecided on cartridge, so I'm not too worried about factory ammo, although primer shortages in Oz is a massive concern.

I shot a 6br the other day and shot a .35 @100 for my 5 rounds, through a rifle and rest set up that didn't fit me at all, Thats the kind of accuracy I'm after.
I don't have a velocity expectation, I'm far more likely to run it slow to preserve barrel life than I am to hot rod the shit out of it.

It MUST feed flawlessly, I don't care if I have to buy specific mags or whatever, but it has to feed 99.9% perfect otherwise I'm not interested.

Approx 2500 round barrel life-
Barrels are fuckin expensive here in Oz

Im contemplating a build on a howa action to start with.
Not keen on spending 7k on another rifle just yet.

From my reading it seems like dasher, gt or 6x47 are most likely to give me what I want.

Or would it be more economical to grab a cheap ass 243 howa and replace the whole barrelled action every 1500 rounds?

Do a 6br on a 700 clone with an AICS dbm and Accurate Mags with spacers (or even MDT mags).

Dasher and Bra gonna be a bit more advanced, for a bit of a gain imho

I've got a 6.5 creed so makes a 260 kinda wasteful.

I want a 6mm for accuracy, low recoil buy also so my 13yo daughter can shoot something bigger than a .22lr

I would go dasher over 6x47 for barrel life. And dasher is very easy to load for. I have found dasher a little easier to feed than straight BR.
But hard to go wrong on any of the 6 br variants

6BR/BRA perfectly fits your needs.

You will need dedicated mags/mag kits, but easy to get feeding to ~99+% reliably.

I have been told this. What is the actually number of same rifles and is it same calibre or same cartridge?

I also asked my gunsmith the same question re 6mm. I'll be following with interest. Also an Aussie. Sort of.

Oh, and the best 6mm is a 7mm.

For example "Technically" I could likely have a 243/308 for hunting, a 243/308 for range use and a custom 243/308 for competitions and that would be fine.

But if I had say a .260 and a 6.5 creed (.264) they might question it depending on how they classify them.

Our rules vary state to state and have no real logic to them.
Western Australia has just said that they're cracking down on gun ownership because there's been a 60% increase in gun registrations but not a 60% increase in licenses (apparently people who already own guns and are already vetted as "fit and proper persons" are a threat of they buy more guns)
They went so far as to publish a map of firearms owners in WA, saying that there's literally a gun owner on every street, yet their own licensing literature states that firearms owners should keep their ownership quiet in order to avoid thefts.

Sorry, I don't have many good things to say about WA government. McGowan is a traitorous fuckwit of the highest order, seconded only by Dan Andrews in my home state of Victoria.

I only have a few guns so I haven't run into any issues. No repeat calibres. I have a 223 I use for night foxing but I intend to have one made for NATO calibre PSR. Fuck me if I have to swap out my NV scope and use my ultra lightweight 223 for competition.

Do a straight BR. It’s easy in every way. Dasher, BRA, BRX, x47, CM, XC, SLR, all “extra” for absolutely no gains for your intended purpose.…especially if your group shooting efforts will be at 100 yards…especially especially since barrel life is a priority. Super accurate even at 600 yards (dasher probably wins at 600 in capable hands), feeds reliably, minimal powder used (components are expensive too) long barrel life for a 6, dumbass easy to reload since you are starting out with that.

Other than that, GT if you feel the need to try the new hotness.

My vote is 6br. Lowest case capacity m, in theory longest barrel life, inherently easy to load and accurate. Lowest recoil. It checks all your boxes. And it has no problem reaching out far. Made 2nd round impact at 1223 last weekend and my friend with his 6br went back to back impacts at 1400

I've been running a 6BR and 6X47L for about 6 years. I'm just a weekend shooter and dabble in 100-1200 yard stuff, informal matches, etc.

6BR is an impressive cartridge and I think I would recommend that or 6GT if you need a little more. Several of the PRS guys around here would say Dasher.

I’ve had or have…. 243Win, 6x47, 6BRA, 6BR, 6 Dasher, 6 Remington, 6 Creedmoor and last year built a 6GT for my son.

The 6x47, Remmy, 243Win, 6CM type cases are all hard on barrels. No way around it.

6BR if feeding from mags you will need modified or dedicated mags for it. I’d take the 6BRA over the Dasher.

No special mags needed, no fire forming needed etc…I’m really liking the 6GT! So that gets my vote.

6creed is way easy on feeding. I HATE 6br and variants because of feeding issues. Yes having the correct mags and setup helps, they can be finniky.

6xc is awesome. Its basically a 6mm 22-250 with minor fire forming. Solid accuracy.

6x47 lap. Only hard on barrels if you run it hard. Im a fan of them.

6brx. If anything BR case... Brx.

Aus gun laws are different from state to state. Just need to know how to work the system.... Which is stupid. State cop firearms branch work like independent ATF agents. "Make it up as they go".

I’m thinking a straight 6BR myself shortly. Components easier to find….dies from BRT shooters, Lapua brass $200 from Q store, dasher brass etc $350 plus if you can get it. Be quick on the primers (CCI been told 3 years possibly 5 WTF don’t know how that works). Powder should be ok since it’s made here. Magazine kits for the BR variants are not around. Just bought 2 from sporting services UK though. 6mm Projectiles are rare as rocking horse shit too…..as are becoming most calibres here. Goodluck

What makes it most frustrating is that almost without fail the politicians / bureaucrats involved in making firearm legislation are a bunch of self serving plebs with zero knowledge of firearms. With this in mind how could they possibly make good policies?

Often the cynic in me thinks the goal is to make complying so hard that people simply give up and sell their guns. Whats most odd is that all the legislation in the world and wont do a thing to prevent criminals from owning guns - only law abiding folks.

This is what happened in out home state in South Aus. Police are trying to make it hwrd to own guns and make people give up.

I sued the police recently over a handgun. I won. The court ordered they issue my PTA (permit to aquire.. 4473 basicslly).

6TCU. Cases are easy to form from .223 cases. Light charges, economical and good barrel life. Dies are a bit pricy, but the caliber has been around for a long time and has a proven record of accuracy. Will feed without issues from any rifle that was chambered for .223. While fireforming is necessary for all the TCU cases, outstanding match scores have been shot while fireforming cases.

I have a good friend with a 6X45, which is similar. It's on his Thompson Contender and shoots really well. Headshots on silhouettes at 500, out of a handgun

While not a 6mm, my .22BR feeds fine from a regular Magpul 5-rounder I also have the $100 MDT BR mag (cause everyone said I needed one), which works fine also.
That said, I’m not running it super hard during timed events and have never tried to.
