We are now the parents of a black German Shepherd puppy. I am trying to find good sources of training material. I know there have to be some folks here that are in to Schutzen.

He's got good genes, and his relatives are certified, so I want to make sure I am teaching him correctly.

Re: Schutzen Training Resources?

My advice to anyone that asks me how to train a dog to do this or that is always this: Read up on some basic animal psychology and training principles, then start to apply them and SEE and UNDERSTAND what you are training the dog to do and most importantly, why he does or doesn't do it. Sure you can get a step by step manual on training this or that technique, but applying it is a completely different experience if you don't understand the fundementals.

Don't focus on a type of training just yet... Just apply some basic dog training and then move on if you feel confident and the dog feels confident. I guarantee if you don't have experience at it, you will get frustrated.

I am by no means a professional dog trainer, but I do spend over 10 hours a day at work bonding with my dog and applying the basics of training all the way up to advanced techniques.

Just my opinion on jumping into training. Hope you enjoy your shep though! I have one at home and work and love them!
