Hi gents, im looking for another scope base for my b14r for longer range use. I'd like to be able to dial to 300-350, currently maxing out at 250 (iirc)
Using an athlon argos 8-34x56 which only has 13 mils internal adjustment on a 20moa rail.
Would a 40moa still allow a 50yd zero?

Apologies for the stupid question, I just haven't yet quite got my head around the whole scope base/distance thing.

Cheers in advance for the replies 👍

Get in touch with Cameron Murphy, Murphy Precision, this is a 8" long 30MOA stainless steel work of art expressly for a Bergera B14r.
Can't say what it will take with your scope.
I've shot two B14r's set up exactly like this one, zeroed at 50 yards out to 400 yards, Nightforce NX8 4X32 MilC

I have an EGW 20MOA HD rail under my Athlon Ares 4.5-30x56. Zeroed at 50 gives me 17 MILs (actually 20 but I'm working from the 85% rule). This gives me 370 yards on dial alone (SK Standard+) and with a 30MOA (19.5 MILs) rail I can get to 404 yards. You might need a different scope. A 40MOA rail is 11.85 MILs so you the erector will be right on the bottom of travel. Not trying to be a debbie downer, just crunching the numbers it will be tight getting to 300 let alone 350. You can tip the odds in your favor with super-sonic ammo I would think...
P.S. Just for clarity this is with my rifle chronoed at 1104FPS and trued to 1145FPS.

Your scope only has 13 mils of elevation in it, per Athlon. My dope calls for 12.8 mils to get to 300.

20 MOA is about 6 mils. I would bet if you went to 40 MOA base, you would not be able to zero under 150 using that scope.

I am sure there are folks way smarter than me that can chime in, but I would stick with 20. Or zero at 50 with the 20MOA base, and see how much you can dial down before hitting the limit.

Buy a clip on device to add the needed travel (not remotely cheap) or a wonky rail that lets you move a pin to add bias to it.

Your scopes limited travel sucks for the task as it is alone. You need roughly 30 mils (+/-) to get to 500.

I'm assuming as you didnt say, that you wish to maintain a sane zero range like 50yds.

What about the adjustable Era-Tac Base? It's cheaper than a new scope and still useful should you upgrade your scope in the future...

As soon as I can justify the price, that's what I'm going for.

You also have 10 mils of elevation you can use in your reticle. Probably bout 4 mils usable at max magnification. How often are you really gonna be shooting at 300+ yds? Not worth changing stuff up in my opinion

My Bergara has a 20 moa rail and Burris XTR signature rings, that has up to 40 MOA extra. I would go with the XTR rings, that way you can add or delete anything you need. I have a Vortex Strike Eagle, with 40MOA in the rings, total 60 MOA, I am 1.5 mils from the bottom. The SE has 31 mils, I can dial up to 500 yds.

I shoot 300m every single time im at the range.
I have to hold over to the bottom line in the reticle to hit at 300m.

Im pretty much sold on a new scope and rings to suit while I shuffle actions, stocks, scopes and such between various rifles- including my new 6.5 Bergara barrelled action.
Will probably throw the argos on the 6.5 which will be plenty for what I'm initially planning to do with it.

Necro post:

@Criver600 was the 30MOA from him a custom job? I only see 0, 10, and 20 MOA on his website for the B14-R

Also what height NF rings are those?

Looking to replicate this setup with a 50MOA rail and NXS 3.5-15x50 scope
