I'm about to close a deal on a rifle I'm selling so I will be ordering a Remington 700 SPS in 300 blackout soon. I'm looking for a decent scope rail mount for it. I have read that some of them have a built in recoil shoulder or lug built in to help with recoil. I know this is not necessary with the 300blk round but I would feel better having it anyway. So what is your recommendation for one that fits the bill? I want a picatinny style rail also, would like to keep it under $70 if possible.

I went with a Blackhawk which has 20 moa. I believe it cost right at what you are looking at. 69.99. My sps is a 308 and I went with Barret rings to hold the nightforce scope.

I have the Weaver Extended 20moa base. It's a really good base, especially for the price. Lonewolfusmc aka John @ 8541 tactical did a review on them as well and has good things to say about them. They have a recoil lug on them and are good quality. I know that there are better or higher quality bases on the market, but I don't really see what they offer with the highly elevated price tag over the Weaver Extended base. Order the Weaver and you will be good to go.

thats what I was thinking. they cost about half as much as most of the others. thanks

I feel that on my rifle it was more the action than the base. I checked the base for straightness before I installed it and it appeared to be dead on. When I mounted it it had a .003" gap on the rear of the base and action. I just bolted it down and called to good. I could be crazy, but I can't imagine that .003" is going to affect the accuracy or reliability of my rifle.

The problem is, it puts a bow in the base, which puts stress on the scope tube. May or may not cause problems.

Considering how easy it is to bed a base, why not do it??

A little over your stated budget, but I've had excellent results with the Seekins bases. <script type="text/javascript" src="safari-extension://com.ebay.safari.myebaymanager-QYHMMGCMJR/8717796/background/helpers/prefilterHelper.js"></script>

Is there a picatinny short base with the built in recoil shoulder/lug? The extended multi mount base that I have is too long. I have to buy rings not to clear the barrel but to clear the scope base. Its kinda aggravating cause I don't even come close to using that extra extended part.

EGW or Larue. Larue will be a little more expensive but very straight. Comes with two sets of screws and loctite. EGW is a good product too. Both made in the USA and both will warranty - but I have never had issues with either and used several on builds. Both available in 0 or 20 moa. I can't recall but I think both come lugged as you have asked. I don't have em both in front of me and I am not dissasembling right now. Call either for help on Monday.

ncbowhunter,

I think your SOL to find a lugged scope base for under $70. Bases that come with a recoil lug that I know of are: Nightforce, Badger Ordnance, Seekins Precision, Some of Ken Farrell's (FG-Force series), and none of those are under a $100. new.
