I just purchased a Ruger Precision rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I want to be able to constantly shoot 1000 yards. I have narrowed my scope selection to the Vortex Viper PST gen 2 5-25X50 EBR-2C or the Sig Sauer Tango4 6-24x50mm. The Sig is quite a bit cheaper which scares me for some reason. I would like to hear of any experiences with either of these scopes or if you have a better option for my RPR. I believe in the buy once, cry once philosophy!

I have very minimal experience with the sig. Literally handled it once, looked through it and played with the turrets and that's it. I own the pst gen 2, and currently have it on my rpr. I'm thrilled with it. If you have any specific questions just ask. But clarity is good to me, turrets feel good with nice clear clicks, etc. Its not my favorite optic I own, but for the price it's great and works great for me

I paired my RPR 6.5 with a NF SHV 4x14x56. It has been a very very good match. I will spend a little time with my Nikon FX1000 6x24x50 on the RPR and see which I prefer...the Nukon is on my 6mm Creedmoor arm and it's very impressive. My PST sits on my Mossberg LC MVP and will probably stay there...good scope but not best to my eyes right now.

OP, I would stay far away from the Sig Tango4. The Tango6 line is made by a different OEM from the Tango4 and while I did not have the 6-24 I had the 4-16 and the glass was bad, the turrets horrible and overall execution was "cheap", the only bright side of the Tango4 was the DEV-L reticle which I really liked, that being said I have the PST II 5-25x50 and think it is a very well executed scope with a good reticle, good turrets and decent glass. The only glass I found better than the PST II within the same price range would be the Bushnell LRHS/LRTS and the Tract Toric. I would say the Burris XTR II was fairly close to the PST II and you can get some great deals on the XTR II now a days so that might be an option as well if you like the reticles.

It looks like you are right around the $1000-1200 price range. In that price range I think the best scope for your money will be a Tract Toric HD. I have two of them and really like them. They don’t offer a Christmas tree style reticle which may be an issue for you. If I didn’t go with the Tract I would buy a Aries ETR or a Burris XTR II. If you are willing to add a little more to your budget you could get a new Sig Tango 6. I have been seeing them for under $1400 lately which is a heck of a deal. I have one of the 4-24 Tango 6’s and it s a really nice scope. I have one of the new Tango 4’s also and unlike WJM308 I’m pretty happy with mine for the price. The one major issue I have with it is the turrets. You only get 6 miles of elevation per revolution which I really don’t like. I like to be able to get to 1000yards with one revolution of the turret. All the scopes I mentioned above have at least 10 mils per revolution which should get your rifle to 1000 yards.

Another vote for the Tract Toric HD. I compared this back to back with my Gen2 Razor and it was very close in clarity and resolution. It wasn't quite as bright, less FOV, and the eyebox was smaller, but for half the price I think it is a great value.

I think the Tract represents one of the best values for a "budget" optic today, instead of going into all the details you can read the review, but if the reticle works for you, you'd be hard pressed to find something better (keep in mind I have no experience with the Athlon scopes) - http://opticsthoughts.com/?p=2354

What’s the furthest you have shot using the NF scope on your ROR?

I've got the pst gen2 in minutes version, I really like it a lot. great glass for the money and the reticle is excellent. fine enough to easily see misses or hits and a very usable Christmas tree drop and windage setup.

As someone who put a PST on my 6.5 RPR for shooting at 1000 and now is upgrading to another scope, my suggestion is save a bit more and get a better scope. The Razor is much better, and with the vortex guarantee, you can find a used razor for not much more than a new PST. The PST is a nice scope but at 1000 yards, glass quality makes a difference.

I have the gen 2 pst on my rpr and it's a good scope, good glass, tracks good etc.. However I find that when I'm dialed up at 25x at shots at 600-1000 I'm wishing the glass was clearer/brighter not sure if I can get that in the price range of the pst
