G'day. I'll start with the basic info and then the wordy stuff later.

  • Platform? Bolt action (Defiance Deviant Action)
  • Cartridge? 7mm Rem Mag
  • Intended use? Mountain/Alps hunting, hunting discipline competitions, long distance target shooting
  • Light conditions? Hunting in very low light, otherwise daylight.
  • Typical distances? Hunt up to 600yards. Target out to a mile, not much more.
  • Specific specifications? SFP, lower weight (doesn't need to be ultra low weight)
  • Price range? Any but needs to be available in Australia.
The rifle in mind is a custom built 7mm Rem Mag specced for weight but not ultralight. It is a Defiance Deviant Hunter action in an aluminium chassis with a 26" CF barrel.

I contemplated a big 25x56 ATACR but the weight is a low level concern.

I like the Swaro Z8i 28x50 or the 18x56. The concern there is the limited elevation for the 1 mile target shots.

I've read about ZCO, S&B, TT but they're not readily available.

Scopes suggested by forum members that fit the bill and are available locally:
- March 2.5-25×52 (funny thing is I can find the distributor but barely any retailers.)

I would appreciate some opinions on the matter. Cheers.

March FX 4.5-28 if you're going ffp, I know you said sfp but a bunch of the scopes in your line up are ffp.
If you really meant sfp check out the march 2.5-25×52
If you're hunting to 600 yards I'd recommend avoiding a huge heavy scope, it's more of a hindrance than it's worth

I went through this search a bit ago. Here is what I considered:

  1. March 1.5-15, SFP
  2. March 4.5-28, FFP
  3. Vortex LHT4.5-22, FFP
  4. Tangent Theta 3-15 hunter FFP
Unfortunatly I realized that the March scopes wouldn't fit on my Anti-X long action (too short). I went with the Vortex over the Tangent because it is lighter, I like the reticle better, it has higher magnification, and if I don't like it I'm not going to lose too much money selling it and upgrading to the Tangent.

I don't know it fits pretty dang good on mine with the included pic rail and Hawkins ultralight rings

Yes, a bunch of them are available as F1/FFP as well as F2/SFP. I'm only considering the F2/SFP. I don't shoot holdovers.

I have the Anti-X which doesnt have a full length rail. I never thought that would be a problem but if I had to do it over again I would just buy an AnTi.
That's the same problem with the Deviant Hunter. It only has one slot at the rear of the action hence I need the item to be available locally to actually see if it will work. The Swaro has the longest neck hence my inclination.

I will check out the others mentioned above although I suspect only the Kahles is stocked here.
